Late May through early October is the prime window for RV travel, when the campground is open, all Park Road access points are clear, and weather is warm enough for hiking and paddling. Fall foliage typically peaks in early to mid October, drawing heavy day-use crowds on weekends, so midweek stays are easier. Late spring brings the fullest waterfall flows and fewer visitors, while winter offers a quiet landscape but limits camping to day-use activities only.

The Middle and Upper Falls area is the most iconic section of Letchworth, where visitors can view two major waterfalls and the historic Glen Iris Inn from paved overlooks. Large day-use lots near these overlooks can accommodate RVs and tow vehicles. The views from the Upper Falls railroad trestle are widely considered the park's signature vista.
Trail 1, the Gorge Trail, is a roughly 7-mile path that connects the three major falls and runs along the rim of the Genesee gorge. Hikers can pick up the trail at several pull-offs along Park Road, allowing shorter out-and-back walks rather than a full through-hike. Parking areas at Lower Falls and Tea Table can handle most RV lengths.
Inspiration Point is a roadside overlook offering a broad view of the Middle Falls and the gorge winding to the south. The parking area sits directly off Park Road and is easy to access for RVs passing through. It is a popular sunset and photography stop.
The Humphrey Nature Center is a family-friendly interpretive center near the Middle Falls area with exhibits on the geology, wildlife, and history of the Genesee Valley. The surrounding grounds include short accessible trails and picnic space. Ample paved parking is available for larger vehicles.
Guided whitewater rafting trips run seasonally on a scenic stretch of the Genesee River below the falls, offering a different perspective of the gorge walls. Rafting outfitters operate from the Lower Falls area with shuttle service provided. Trips are most reliable from late spring through early fall, depending on water levels.
The Mount Morris Dam, at the park's northern end, is one of the largest concrete dams east of the Mississippi and offers interpretive exhibits and panoramic views into the north end of the gorge. Free guided tours of the dam structure are available seasonally through the Army Corps of Engineers. The adjacent overlook area has space for RVs.
The Highbanks area near the main campground offers shorter loop walks with gorge views that are well suited to campers arriving by RV. Several trails link directly from the campground loops, avoiding the need to move the rig. It is a good option for sunrise or evening strolls without driving the length of Park Road.
Driving the full length of Park Road from the Mount Morris entrance to Portageville is one of the top fall-foliage drives in New York State. The route is about 17 miles with numerous RV-friendly pullouts and overlooks along the way. Midweek visits are recommended to avoid peak weekend traffic in October.
Tim was wonderful to work with. He had everything you could ask for. Towels, Sheets, Pillows, Blankets, even a Bean Bag. The RV felt like home.

Letchworth State Park, NY, United States
Letchworth sits in western New York about 35 miles south of Rochester, roughly a 45 to 60 minute drive, and about 60 miles east of Buffalo, roughly 75 minutes. Most RVers arrive via I-390 to exit 7 for the Mount Morris entrance, or via Route 19A to the Portageville entrance in the south; both approaches use rural two-lane roads with rolling grades but no major tunnels or extreme passes. The internal Park Road is paved and RV-friendly, though some spur roads to overlooks have tight turns and small parking areas better suited to smaller rigs. For fly-and-rent trips, Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) is the closest major airport, with Buffalo Niagara International (BUF) as an alternative.
