The best time to visit is from late June through August, when the campground is fully open, daytime temperatures are comfortable for swimming and paddling, and the Moose River Plains roads are passable. How to get to Limekiln Campground and Day-Use Area

The campground is reached via Limekiln Road off NY Route 28 in the hamlet of Inlet, roughly a 1.5 hour drive from Utica and about 2.5 to 3 hours from Syracuse and Albany. RV drivers should expect a winding two-lane approach on Route 28 through the Adirondacks with rolling grades, limited shoulders, and seasonal moose activity, and the final stretch on Limekiln Road is paved but narrow. There are no tunnels or weight-restricted bridges on the main route, but winter and early spring closures apply. The nearest commercial airports for fly-and-rent trips are Syracuse Hancock International and Albany International.
