Late spring through early fall is the most popular window, with May and June offering mild temperatures, green forests, and active fishing on Holman Lake. July and August bring warm, humid weather and peak campground demand, so midweek stays are easier to secure. September and October are excellent shoulder-season choices for RV travel, with cooler nights, fewer crowds, and colorful fall foliage across the surrounding ridges. Winter visits are possible for day use, but the campground and pool close seasonally.

Holman Lake is an 88-acre impoundment open to non-powered and electric-motor boats, with bass, bluegill, crappie, and stocked trout. A boat launch and shoreline parking make gear-heavy days easy for RV visitors. A small rental concession typically operates in summer.
Mill Race Trail is a short, level path following the historic mill race from the dam area to Shoaff's Mill. It is one of the park's most accessible walks and is suitable for most visitors. Interpretive signs explain the mill's 19th-century operation.
Shoaff's Mill is a restored 19th-century gristmill that operates for seasonal demonstrations, paired nearby with the Blue Ball Tavern Museum interpreting local Perry County history. Both sit near day-use parking accessible to tow vehicles. Seasonal hours apply, so check before visiting.
Buffalo Ridge Trail climbs the wooded ridge north of the lake for moderate elevation gain and quiet forest scenery. The loop connects with other park trails for longer hikes. Sturdy footwear is recommended due to roots and rocks.
Middle Ridge Trail follows a forested ridgeline above Holman Lake and links with other park paths for longer loop hikes. It offers quiet woodland scenery and seasonal views through the trees. The tread includes roots and rocks, so sturdy shoes help.
A seasonal outdoor swimming pool operates during summer months, adjacent to large picnic areas and a playground. Shaded pavilions and ample paved parking make it a convenient midday stop for RV campers. Pool hours are set annually by the park.
The park's disc golf course winds through wooded and open terrain near the day-use area. It is suitable for beginners and experienced players alike. Parking is available at the nearby day-use lot.
Great family to host their RV
Richard N. - Oct 2025
This camper was clean, well equipped, and perfect for our small family. Keith was communicative and flexible with delivery times. He had the camper all set up when we arrived! It was a wonderful first rental experience. Highly recommended!

Little Buffalo State Park, PA, United States
The park sits about 4 miles west of Newport, roughly 25 miles northwest of Harrisburg, a 35 to 45 minute drive via US Route 22/322 and PA Route 34. Pittsburgh is about 3.5 hours west via the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and Philadelphia is about 2.5 hours east via I-76 and US 322. RV drivers should plan for rolling terrain, narrow two-lane approach roads near the park entrance, and sharp turns on Little Buffalo Creek Road, and should avoid low-clearance covered bridges in the surrounding Perry County backroads. Harrisburg International Airport is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips.
