Late spring through early fall, roughly May to September, is the most popular window thanks to warm, dry weather ideal for boating and swimming on the lake. July and August bring afternoon monsoon thunderstorms and the highest visitation, so midweek stays are easier on RVers. Shoulder months of April, May, and October offer cooler nights, fewer crowds, and comfortable hiking to the petroglyph sites. Winters are cold with occasional snow at this 6,000-foot elevation, and some services scale back, though the park itself remains open.

Lyman Lake is one of the few Arizona state park lakes with no horsepower limit, making it a destination for waterskiing, wakeboarding, and jet skiing. A paved boat ramp and courtesy dock near the campground serve trailered craft.
This short interpretive trail leads to a concentrated panel of prehistoric rock art carved by ancestral Puebloan peoples. The round-trip hike is flat and family friendly, with trailhead parking near the park entrance road.
Rangers lead seasonal boat-access tours to Rattlesnake Point, a partially excavated ancestral pueblo site on the lakeshore. The site features masonry room blocks and additional petroglyph panels.
Lyman Lake is stocked and managed for warm-water species, including largemouth bass, channel catfish, crappie, and walleye. Shore fishing is accessible from the campground and day-use areas, and an Arizona fishing license is required.
A designated swim beach on the lake offers sand, shade ramadas, and picnic tables for a relaxed day by the water. The day-use area has RV-friendly parking and nearby restrooms.
This short out-and-back trail circles a rocky peninsula etched with additional rock art panels. Interpretive signs explain the cultural significance and the ancestral peoples who created the images.
The lake and surrounding grasslands attract waterfowl, raptors, pronghorn, and a buffalo herd that is visible from pull-offs along the park road. Early mornings from the campground offer the best viewing conditions.
