Late June through early September offers the warmest, driest weather and the most reliable conditions for coastal walking and sightseeing. Late May and June are prime for iceberg viewing along the Avalon coast, while July and August bring the best chance of spotting humpback whales offshore. September is a good shoulder-season choice for RV travelers, with cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and still-accessible roads. Winter visits are limited by snow, ice, and coastal wind.

Driving and walking the shoreline is the park's headline activity, with ocean views, rocky headlands, and small coves along the route. The road threads past pullouts and viewpoints suitable for short stops.
The Avalon coast is a reliable section of Iceberg Alley in late May and June. Viewers can scan the horizon from clifftop pullouts along Marine Drive for drifting bergs carried south by the Labrador Current.
In July and August humpback whales feed close to the Avalon shoreline as capelin roll in. Calm mornings from high points along the coast often produce sightings without needing a boat tour.
Sections of the East Coast Trail run near the park and link communities along the Avalon shore. Paths such as those around Logy Bay, Middle Cove, and Torbay provide coastal walks of varying lengths and difficulty.
Nearby Middle Cove Beach is a popular stop for beachcombing, cliff views, and, in summer, watching capelin roll onto the sand. The beach has a parking area and is a short drive from the park.
Downtown St. John's, Signal Hill National Historic Site, and Cape Spear are all within a short drive. These add historic sites, a lighthouse, and harbor views to a Marine Drive itinerary.
The coast hosts gulls, kittiwakes, and other seabirds, with chances to see gannets and alcids offshore during migration and summer. Binoculars are useful at clifftop viewpoints.
This was a great little RV and the host was very helpful. The whole process was surprisingly easy. We took 2 small families camping in this one and had room for everyone.

Marine Drive Provincial Park, NL, Canada
The park lies on Marine Drive on the Avalon Peninsula, roughly 10 to 15 km northeast of downtown St. John's, a drive of about 20 to 30 minutes depending on starting point. From the Trans-Canada Highway (Route 1), travelers connect through St. John's to Logy Bay Road (Route 30) and then onto Marine Drive. RV drivers should expect narrow, winding coastal roads with rolling hills, tight turns, and limited shoulders, so reduced speeds and caution are advised, and larger rigs should scout pull-offs before committing to tight viewpoints. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent trips is St. John's International Airport (YYT), about 20 to 30 minutes by road.
