Late June through early September is the prime window, offering warm days, open campground facilities, and clear conditions for tower views. September into early October is a standout shoulder season thanks to peak fall foliage across the North Country, though nights turn cold quickly. May and late October are quieter but can bring mud, frost, and limited services. Winter access is limited with the campground closed, though the park area is used for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

The observation tower at the summit is the park's signature attraction, delivering a sweeping 360 degree view. On clear days visitors can see the Presidential Range, the Mahoosucs, parts of Vermont and Maine, and into Quebec.
Short, easygoing trails loop through hardwood forest and open fields around the hilltop. They are well suited to a quick leg-stretch from the campground or picnic area.
The park has picnic tables, open lawn, and grills near the tower and parking area. It is a convenient lunch stop for travelers heading to or from Umbagog Lake and the Great North Woods.
Milan Hill's small seasonal campground offers primitive tent sites and rental yurts in a wooded setting. It is a quiet alternative to busier campgrounds in the White Mountains to the south.
Lake Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge lies about 20 miles north and offers paddling, wildlife viewing, and loon and bald eagle habitat. It pairs well with a base camp at Milan Hill.
The Androscoggin River runs through the valley below the park and is popular for trout and landlocked salmon fishing as well as flatwater and light whitewater paddling. Several public access points lie along NH Route 16.
In winter the park's open fields and trails are used for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The campground is closed, but day-use access to the hilltop remains popular with locals.

Milan Hill State Park, NH, United States
The park sits off NH Route 16 about 12 miles north of Berlin, New Hampshire, roughly a 20 minute drive, and about 40 miles north of the Mount Washington area. From Portland, Maine it is roughly a 2.5 hour drive and from Manchester about 3 hours. RV drivers should note the final approach climbs Milan Hill Road, which is paved but narrow, winding, and steep in places, so large rigs should take it slowly. The nearest regional airport for fly-and-rent trips is Portland International Jetport in Maine, with Manchester-Boston Regional Airport as a larger alternative.
