Spring, from March through May, is generally considered the best time to visit for moderate temperatures, active fishing, and peak migratory bird activity. Fall, from late September through early November, offers cooler nights, lower humidity, and thinner mosquito pressure, which is ideal for RV travel. Summer is open and popular for boating but can be hot and humid with frequent thunderstorms. Winter stays mild enough for camping, though cold fronts and occasional ice storms can briefly impact travel.

Millwood Lake is a 29,000-acre reservoir widely recognized as one of the top bass and crappie fisheries in the South. Anglers target largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, and bream around flooded timber and cypress. The park provides boat launches and a marina with direct RV parking access.
The Wildflower Trail is a short interpretive loop through bottomland hardwood forest near the campground. It showcases seasonal wildflowers, songbirds, and Gulf Coastal Plain ecology. Trailhead parking is close to RV sites for easy walk-on access.
Millwood Lake is a renowned stop on the Central Flyway and a hotspot for birders. Winter brings bald eagles, pelicans, and large concentrations of waterfowl, while spring and fall add warblers and shorebirds. The park road and lake overlooks provide vehicle-based viewing suitable for RVers.
Visitors can launch powerboats, kayaks, and canoes from the park marina to explore the lake's flooded timber and backwater sloughs. Quiet coves in the upper lake are popular for paddling. Courtesy docks and ramps accommodate trailered boats towed by RVs.
Shaded picnic areas sit along the Millwood Lake shoreline with tables, grills, and pavilions. The sites offer lake views and are a short walk from RV campsites. Pavilions can be reserved for group gatherings.
The park visitor center features exhibits on the lake's ecology, fisheries, and Gulf Coastal Plain habitats. Seasonal ranger-led programs cover birding, fishing clinics, and guided hikes. The parking lot accommodates larger vehicles.
The US Army Corps of Engineers Millwood Dam and spillway sit at the north end of the lake and offer open water views. A short drive from the state park, the overlook is a popular spot for photos and tailwater fishing. Paved pull-offs provide space for RVs and trailers.

Millwood State Park, AR, United States
The park is about 12 miles east of Ashdown on Arkansas Highway 32 and roughly 30 miles northeast of Texarkana, a drive of about 45 minutes. From Hot Springs it is about 120 miles south, around 2.5 hours, and from Little Rock about 160 miles southwest, around 3 hours. Access roads are paved, flat Gulf Coastal Plain highways with no tunnels or mountain passes, making the route friendly for large RVs, though drivers should watch for low-hanging limbs on the final park road and for bridge weight postings on rural county routes. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Texarkana Regional Airport (TXK), with Shreveport Regional (SHV) and Little Rock (LIT) as larger alternatives.
