Late May through early October offers the most reliable RV weather, with warm days, open canoe liveries, and full campground services. June and September are sweet spots for moderate temperatures and lighter weekday crowds, while July and August bring peak heat, peak demand, and the busiest river traffic. October delivers strong fall color in the hemlock and hardwood forest, but nights turn cold and many seasonal services wind down. Winter camping is possible in limited loops, but icy roads in the gorge and cold temperatures make it best suited to experienced cold-weather RVers.

Lyons Falls Trail is a roughly 2-mile loop that visits two recessed sandstone waterfalls, Big and Little Lyons Falls, set in the Clear Fork Gorge. The path follows the river through hemlock forest with stone steps and roots underfoot. Trailhead parking accommodates passenger vehicles and smaller RVs; large rigs should park at the main campground and shuttle.
The Mohican Covered Bridge spans the Clear Fork of the Mohican River at the heart of the gorge, a designated National Natural Landmark. Visitors can park near the bridge to photograph the river and access connecting trails. The bridge area is a short drive from the main campground.
The Clear Fork of the Mohican River is one of Ohio's most popular paddling rivers, with multiple liveries near Loudonville offering canoe, kayak, and tube rentals with shuttle service. Trips range from a couple of hours to a full day. RVers can launch from the campground area or use livery parking lots.
Pleasant Hill Lake sits just upstream of the state park and offers boating, swimming, and trout fishing in the tailwater below the dam. The overlook gives a sweeping view of the gorge and lake. RV-friendly parking is available at the dam overlook.
The Mohican Mountain Bike Trail is a 24-plus mile single-track loop in the adjoining state forest, considered one of the premier rides in the Midwest. It is rated intermediate to advanced with rolling climbs and ridge views. Trailhead parking can fit trucks with bike trailers but is tight for large motorhomes.
Hemlock Gorge Trail follows the Clear Fork beneath towering hemlocks for an easy riverside walk between the covered bridge and the campground area. Several flat sections work well for casual hikers. Parking at both ends accommodates standard vehicles and smaller RVs.
The main campground sits directly on the Clear Fork, with day-use river access for swimming, wading, and fishing right from the loops. Anglers target stocked rainbow trout and smallmouth bass. Sites include pull-through full-hookup options sized for larger RVs.
The Mohican Fire Tower in the adjacent state forest offers a climbable observation tower with panoramic views over the forested ridges of north-central Ohio. The drive in is on paved forest roads suitable for most RVs. It pairs well with a stop at the nearby memorial shrine to Ohio's war dead.
Jessica was great to work with and the camper was perfect for our weekend trip. I would definitely book again.

Mohican State Park, OH, United States
The park is reached via State Route 3 and State Route 97 near Loudonville, about 20 minutes from Mansfield, roughly 75 miles (about 1.5 hours) from Columbus, and around 90 miles (about 2 hours) from Cleveland and Akron. RVers should note that the roads inside the gorge, especially SR 97 and the park drive past the covered bridge, are narrow, winding, and steep in spots, with tight curves not ideal for very long rigs or towed combinations; large RVs should approach the campground from SR 3. There are no major tunnels or weight-restricted passes on the main approaches. The nearest commercial airports for fly-and-rent travelers are Cleveland Hopkins (CLE) and John Glenn Columbus (CMH), each about a 90-minute to 2-hour drive.
