Monadnock State Park, NH, United States
The park is located in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, about a 90-minute drive from Boston, roughly 75 miles, and about 1 hour 15 minutes from Manchester, around 50 miles. From the south, most RVers approach via Route 202 to Route 124, which leads directly to the park entrance on Dublin Road. The access roads are paved two-lane rural routes with no tunnels, low bridges, or major mountain passes, but the final approach includes tight turns and a steep grade into the headquarters parking area that large motorhomes should take slowly. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT), with Boston Logan (BOS) as a larger alternative.
Late May through mid-October is the most reliable window for RV travel, with warm days, dry trails, and fully open park services. September and early October bring peak fall foliage and cooler hiking weather, though weekends fill quickly and reservations are recommended. Spring shoulder months can be muddy with lingering snow and ice above tree line, and summit weather can be cold and windy year round. Winter access is limited, with the campground closed and only day-use hiking available in suitable conditions.

The White Dot Trail is the most direct route to the summit of Mount Monadnock, climbing about 1,800 feet over roughly 2.2 miles from park headquarters. It is steep and rocky in its upper half, with open ledges leading to panoramic views across New England.
The White Cross Trail is a popular descent option that parallels the White Dot Trail and is slightly longer and less steep. Many hikers combine the two for a loop from the main headquarters trailhead.
The visitor center at park headquarters offers trail maps, exhibits on the mountain's natural and cultural history, and advice on current conditions. It is the best first stop for any RV traveler arriving at the park.
The picnic area near park headquarters has tables, grills, and restrooms in a wooded setting below the mountain. It is a practical option for RV travelers who want a meal stop without committing to a summit climb.
The Marlboro Trail is the oldest trail on the mountain and climbs the west side from Shaker Farm Road in Marlboro. It offers a quieter alternative to the headquarters routes with a steady, rocky ascent to the summit.
The Parker Trail is a gentler 1.5-mile path that runs along the lower slopes from park headquarters to the Poole Memorial Road area. It is a good option for families and for hikers not tackling the summit.
The park's rural setting in the Monadnock Region provides dark skies compared to nearby cities. On clear nights, campers can observe the Milky Way and seasonal meteor showers from open areas near the campground.
