Late June through early September offers the warmest, driest weather and full access to the sandy beach, boat launch and interpretive trail, though these are also the busiest weeks. The park has very high use during the summer season, so RVers seeking quieter sites should target the shoulder weeks in early June or mid-September. Spring and fall bring excellent bird-watching, with deer and bear sightings in the fall. Wood ticks are most prevalent between March and June in tall grass and low shrubbery, so spring visitors should dress accordingly.

Monck's sandy beach on Nicola Lake is the park's main draw for families. The swimming area is buoyed off from boat traffic, and the lake bottom drops off sharply between the buoys, so swimmers need to use caution. There are change houses, and there are no lifeguards on duty in BC Parks. bcparks.ca/monck-park/
A self-guided trail circles the park with views over Nicola Lake and the volcanic cliffs. The 5 km self-guided interpretive hiking trail loops around the park, with a 1.3 km addition to the east of the existing upper trails. The loop is best walked from the upper end, and sections of this trail are steep and require caution. bcparks.ca/monck-park/
Nicola Lake is a productive fishery accessible directly from the campground shoreline and boat launch. Rainbow trout and kokanee are the most common fish, however there are 26 species of fish in the lake. A valid BC angling licence is required and must be carried with you when fishing. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/monck/index.html
Nicola Lake is known for reliable afternoon winds that draw windsurfers from across the region. Waterskiing occurs on Nicola Lake, and windsurfing is very popular due to the daily high winds the area receives. Canoeing and kayaking opportunities are available, but extreme caution should be used due to the high winds and frequent sudden windstorms on the lake. bcparks.ca/monck-park/
The day-use area is a large lakeside green space with shaded tables and an adventure playground. The day-use is located next to the lake on a large grassy area. There are 40 picnic tables; 15 of the tables have a roof shelter. A few ponderosa pine trees provide some shade, and there is a large parking area adjacent to the day-use. An adventure playground and horseshoe pitch are located near the day-use area. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/monck/index.html
The park's ponderosa pine and bunchgrass habitat supports a wide range of wildlife. Excellent bird-watching occurs in spring and fall, and there are deer and bear sightings in the fall. bcparks.ca/monck-park/
A free introductory angling program runs for younger visitors during the summer. The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC runs a hands-on Learn to Fish Program that teaches basic angling skills to youth under 16 years old. bcparks.ca/monck-park/

If you are aren't sure, I can tell you that you don't need to worry, Steve is definitely your guy. We will rent from him as long as he is renting his trailer out on this platform. See you again next year, Steve! ☺️

Monck Provincial Park, BC, Canada
Monck Provincial Park sits on the western shore of Nicola Lake, 22 km north of Merritt and about 12 km off Hwy 5A via a narrow paved road. From Kamloops the drive is roughly 120 km (about 1.5 hours) south on the Coquihalla (Hwy 5) to Merritt, then east on Hwy 5A. From Vancouver plan on about 3.5 hours via the Coquihalla, which includes the Coquihalla Summit at 1,244 m and long sustained grades that can strain larger RVs in hot weather or winter conditions. The final 12 km access road is paved but narrow, so drivers of longer rigs should reduce speed and watch for oncoming traffic. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travellers is Kamloops (YKA), with Kelowna (YLW) and Vancouver (YVR) as larger alternatives.
