Late April through early June and September through October are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with mild temperatures, lower humidity, and blooming or fall-color landscapes on the grounds. Mid-June through mid-August aligns with the Stephen Foster outdoor musical season and Bardstown's summer festivals, though afternoons can be hot and humid. Shoulder-season visits in March and November are quieter, but expect cool nights and verify campground operating dates before arriving. Winter visits are possible for day use of the mansion tours, but camping services are typically limited.

Guided tours of the early 19th-century Federal Hill mansion are the park's signature activity. Federal Hill is one of Kentucky's most famous historic sites and the inspiration for "My Old Kentucky Home." Costumed interpreters walk visitors through period rooms and the home's connection to composer Stephen Foster.
This summer outdoor musical is performed at the park's J. Dan Talbott Amphitheatre. The show dramatizes Foster's life and the songs that made him a 19th-century American music icon. Evening performances run through the summer season and often sell out, so reserve campsites and tickets together.
The park's public golf course winds across rolling terrain next to the mansion grounds. Tee times are available to both campers and day visitors. Pull-through RV parking is easy to find near the clubhouse.
A short paved walking loop passes the formal gardens, family cemetery, and outbuildings on the estate. The route is flat and shaded by large trees, making it suitable for most ability levels. Interpretive signs explain the landscape and its 19th-century origins.
Bardstown's walkable downtown is minutes from the park and built around a classic Kentucky courthouse square. Bardstown was settled in 1780 and has long been a major economic, social and business center for the region, with tourism as a leading industry. Expect boutique shopping, restaurants, and historic inns within a few blocks.
Bardstown brands itself as the Bourbon Capital of the World, and several Kentucky Bourbon Trail distilleries are within a short drive of the park. Distillery campuses generally have large lots suitable for tow vehicles and smaller RVs, though many prefer to unhitch at the state park first. Reserve tour times online in advance.
The dinner train departs from nearby Bardstown for a scenic round trip through the Kentucky countryside. The ride pairs multi-course meals with restored vintage rail cars. Parking for tow vehicles and smaller motorhomes is available at the depot.
For over a century people from around the world have come to rural Central Kentucky to honor the humble beginnings of the 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, and to visit the country's first memorial to Lincoln at the site of his childhood home. The site sits roughly 35 miles south of Bardstown, an easy day trip for RVers. The visitor center and memorial building both have accessible parking.
This is second time we have rented this RV. We would definitely recommend to anyone needing a RV.

Michelle was an amazing host! Extremely quick in communication! We rented her rv with just a few days notice and she was able to deliver it to the campsite which made it so nice to just come and camp. Would definitely rent from her again! Super good experience!

Jeff was great to work with and the camper was stocked with everything you could need. He adjusted to the times we needed without an issue and answered all messages quickly. Will be renting again from him next year. Best experience I have had renting a camper after 5 years of renting. Cannot recommend him enough.

Excellent experience. Took it to Rock the Country with 6 adults and had a blast. Very hot over the weekend and the air conditioners made sleeping conditions very comfortable. Highly recommended!!!

My Old Kentucky Home State Park, KY, United States
The park sits just off U.S. Highway 150 on the east side of Bardstown, a short drive from the Bluegrass Parkway. Louisville is approximately 40 miles to the northwest, about an hour by RV, while Lexington is roughly 75 miles east, about 90 minutes via the Bluegrass Parkway. No tunnels, mountain passes, or major weight-restricted routes block access, but RVers should watch for low-clearance historic underpasses in downtown Bardstown and use U.S. 150 or U.S. 31E to bypass the old town core. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF).
