Late spring and early fall offer the best balance for RV travelers, with warm ocean temperatures, lower humidity than midsummer, and lighter crowds than the June through August peak. April, May, September, and October are especially pleasant for hiking the nature trails and walking the beach without heat advisories. Summer is the busiest season and campground reservations fill months in advance. Winter is mild and quiet, ideal for snowbirds who want a coastal base with open facilities.
Cool and quiet; campground open year-round
Spring break crowds on nearby beaches
Pleasant shoulder season for RV travel
Peak season begins; book early

Hurricane season peak; warm ocean, thinner crowds
Excellent shoulder-season RV weather
Mild winter base for snowbirds
The park's wooden pier extends into the Atlantic and is one of the main attractions for anglers and sightseers. Day passes are sold at the pier house, and catches commonly include whiting, flounder, spot, and king mackerel in season. Parking is available near the pier with space for tow vehicles.
This short loop winds through a rare stretch of coastal maritime forest featuring wind-sculpted live oaks draped in Spanish moss. The flat, sandy path is suitable for most visitors and showcases the ecosystem that once covered much of the Grand Strand. Trailhead parking accommodates passenger vehicles; RVers should park at the main day-use lot.
The park offers about a mile of wide, undeveloped beach with designated swim areas staffed by seasonal lifeguards. A bathhouse with showers and restrooms sits near the main beach access boardwalk. It is a calmer alternative to the busier public beaches in downtown Myrtle Beach.
The park's nature center features live local reptiles, touch tanks, and exhibits on coastal ecology. Rangers and naturalists lead programs on sea turtles, seashells, and beachcombing throughout the warm season. The center is a short walk from the main parking area and campground.
A second short forest trail explores a maritime thicket of yaupon holly and pine. The level path is a good choice for a quick leg stretch from the campground and is accessible to most ability levels. Look for songbirds, lizards, and white-tailed deer.
Anglers can surf fish directly from the park beach outside the designated swim area, a popular activity at dawn and dusk. A South Carolina saltwater fishing license is required for adults. Tackle and bait can be purchased at the pier shop.
Paved interior roads and the campground loops are flat and low traffic, making the park a comfortable place for casual family cycling. Riders can easily link the campground, pier, picnic areas, and beach access on two wheels. Bike racks are available near the main day-use area.
Very helpful throughout the entire process, booking to returns. Enjoyed the camper and the kind service. Would definitely rent again.

Myrtle Beach State Park, SC, United States
The park sits off US Highway 17 Business about 3 miles south of downtown Myrtle Beach, roughly a 15 minute drive from the Myrtle Beach boardwalk. From Charleston, SC, the drive is about 2 hours (95 miles) north via US 17, and from Wilmington, NC, it is roughly 90 minutes (75 miles) south on US 17. There are no tunnels, mountain passes, or steep grades on these coastal routes, but US 17 through Myrtle Beach has heavy summer traffic, frequent signals, and several low-clearance overpasses on side roads, so tall RVs should follow posted truck routes. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent trips is Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR), about 10 minutes from the park entrance.
