Late spring through early fall, roughly May to October, is the most comfortable window for RV travel, with warm days, green forest canopy, and the full campground and pool season in operation. Early October is a highlight for fall foliage on the rail trail and surrounding ridges. Shoulder months of April and November can be pleasant but wet, with muddy trail conditions and cool overnight temperatures. Summer weekends and holidays book up well in advance, so midweek stays usually mean easier site selection.

The North Bend Rail Trail is a long rail-to-trail route following a former B&O railroad corridor through tunnels and over bridges across north-central West Virginia. The park serves as a primary trailhead with RV-accessible parking, making it a popular base for cyclists and hikers.
North Bend Lake is a small fishing lake near the park offering bass, bluegill, and catfish angling from the bank or non-motorized boats. A paved access road provides parking suitable for tow vehicles and smaller RVs.
The Extra Mile Trail is an accessible, paved interpretive loop designed for visitors of all abilities, including wheelchair users. It offers a short, flat walk with shaded rest stops near the lodge.
The North Fork of the Hughes River winds around the park and offers warm-water fishing for smallmouth bass, musky, and panfish. Several pull-offs along the park road give anglers easy access from vehicles.
A network of short hiking trails loops through the hardwood forest around the campground and lodge, including routes like the Castle Rock and Nature trails. Most trailheads are located near large day-use lots with room for tow vehicles.
The nearby village of Cairo is a historic oil-and-gas boom town just outside the park and a popular stop on the rail trail. Visitors can browse small shops, a general store, and railroad-era buildings a short drive from the campground.
The park operates a seasonal outdoor swimming pool with a bathhouse near the lodge during the summer months. Adjacent picnic shelters, game courts, and a playground provide family-friendly recreation on hot afternoons.

North Bend State Park, WV, United States
The park is about 20 miles southeast of Parkersburg, West Virginia, roughly a 30 to 40 minute drive via US-50 and WV-31 through Cairo. From Charleston, WV, plan on about 2.5 hours north via I-77 and US-50, and from Pittsburgh, PA, allow around 3 hours south via I-79. RV drivers should expect narrow, winding secondary roads with short grades and a few tight bridges on the final approach through Cairo, and should avoid routing tight trailers through the historic rail-trail tunnels, which are not highway corridors. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent trips is Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport near Parkersburg, with larger service at Pittsburgh International and Yeager Airport in Charleston.
