Late June through August offers the warmest weather, calm lake conditions for paddling, and the fullest access to shoreline day-use areas. Early September is a strong shoulder window, with cooler nights, fewer bugs, and lighter traffic on US 2 through the Champlain Islands. May and early June can be cool and buggy, and the park is typically gated or unmaintained outside the summer season, making it less practical for day visits. Fall foliage in early October brings colorful lakeside scenery, though most nearby campgrounds close for the year.

Lakeside picnic areas along City Bay offer tables, grills, and open water views from North Hero Island. The grassy shoreline is a popular spot for family lunches and swimming breaks during RV day trips.
The park provides a hand-carry launch for kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards on Lake Champlain. Calm bays and nearby islands make this a beginner-friendly paddling area, with parking space suited to tow vehicles unhitched from RVs.
Anglers cast from the park's shoreline for smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, and panfish common to Lake Champlain. A current Vermont fishing license is required.
Quiet marshes and mixed forest host herons, ospreys, waterfowl, and migrating songbirds. Spring and early summer mornings are the most productive times to spot wildlife from the shoreline and park roads.
Flat gravel park roads and informal woodland paths wind through meadows, wetlands, and lakeside groves. The terrain is easy and suitable for casual walks between picnic sessions.
Visitors swim from the undeveloped shoreline when lake conditions and water quality allow. There is no lifeguarded beach, so swimmers should check posted cyanobacteria advisories before entering the water.
RV travelers often pair a stop at North Hero State Park with visits to Knight Point State Park, Grand Isle State Park, or Alburgh Dunes State Park along US 2. Each offers different lake access, beaches, and short trails within a short drive.
We rented the trailer from Nathalie for a 4 weeks vacation in Newfoundland. The RV came in fully equipped and in great condition. We drove it across the maritimes with no issues. Nathalie was very responsive and also very accomodating for pick up and return time. We had an amazing time.

North Hero State Park, VT, United States
The park sits on US 2 on North Hero Island, about 35 miles (roughly 45 minutes) north of Burlington, Vermont, and about 65 miles (1 hour 30 minutes) south of Montreal via I-89 and the Champlain Islands causeway. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Burlington International Airport (BTV), with Plattsburgh International (PBG) in New York a secondary option. US 2 through the islands is flat and RV-friendly, but drivers should watch for narrow causeway shoulders between South Hero and Grand Isle and for a seasonal swing bridge at the north end near Alburgh. There are no mountain passes or tunnels on the approach from Burlington.
