Mid-June through early September is the best window, when the campground is open, ocean water along the Northumberland Strait is among the warmest north of the Carolinas, and supervised swimming is offered. July and August bring the warmest weather but also the busiest weekends, so reservations are recommended for RV sites. Late June and the first half of September are quieter shoulder periods with cooler nights and fewer crowds, though some services may be reduced. The park is closed to camping outside the summer season.

Swim and sunbathe on the red sand beach right next to the campground. The shallow, warm strait water is among the warmest in Atlantic Canada, and supervised swimming is typically offered in summer.
Explore a historic PEI lighthouse a short drive from the park. The site features interpretive exhibits on Northumberland Strait ferry history, rum-running, and local marine heritage, with ocean views from the tower.
Tour eastern PEI on this signed scenic route that passes directly by the park. Expect lighthouses, fishing harbours, red-cliff viewpoints, and farm stands, with plenty of pull-offs suitable for RVs.
Ride the seasonal Northumberland Ferries service between Wood Islands and Caribou, Nova Scotia. The crossing takes about 75 minutes and is a popular day-trip or onward travel option for RVers.
Walk the shoreline at low tide to look for sea glass, shells, and small marine life. The gentle sand and red sandstone shore make it easy for all ages.
Pedal the quiet rural routes around Wood Islands and Belfast on road or hybrid bikes. The terrain is rolling but manageable, with ocean views and minimal traffic outside peak ferry times.
Enjoy a campfire at your RV site as the sun sets over the strait. Low light pollution on this stretch of coast gives good stargazing on clear summer nights.
First time renting a trailer and had a great first experience. The owners provided so much more than what is listed in their listing. From small kitchen appliances, cleaning supplies, dish ware, down to dvds for the dvd player. I could not have rented from better hosts. You will not be disappointed.

Northumberland Provincial Park, PE, Canada
The park sits off Route 4 near Wood Islands, about 60 km (roughly a 50 minute drive) east of Charlottetown and only a few minutes from the Wood Islands ferry terminal that links PEI with Caribou, Nova Scotia. From the Confederation Bridge at Borden-Carleton, plan on about 115 km (roughly 90 minutes) of easy driving on Routes 1 and 4. There are no tunnels, mountain passes, or significant grades for RVs on the approach, but coastal winds on the Confederation Bridge can be strong, and large rigs should check bridge wind advisories. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Charlottetown Airport (YYG).
