April, May, October, and early November are ideal, offering mild daytime temperatures, lower humidity, and colorful foliage in fall or wildflowers in spring. Summer brings hot, humid weather and higher campground demand, so early reservations are recommended for RVers. Winter is the quietest season with cool days and occasional freezes, but the park and campground remain open year round. Shoulder seasons also mean better trail conditions for hiking and mountain biking.

Peavine Falls is a short, rewarding hike to a seasonal waterfall in a rocky gorge on the back side of Double Oak Mountain. The trailhead parking lot accommodates standard vehicles and smaller RVs, with tow vehicles recommended for larger rigs.
The Red Trail is a nationally recognized single-track mountain biking system managed in partnership with BUMP (Birmingham Urban Mountain Pedalers). The network offers roughly 23 miles of loops from beginner flow to advanced technical sections, with trailhead parking that fits trucks and tow vehicles.
The Alabama Wildlife Center is the state's oldest and largest wildlife rehabilitation and education facility, located inside the park. Visitors can view native raptors and learn about bird conservation through interpretive exhibits.
Oak Mountain Beach is a sandy swimming area on Beaver Lake with seasonal lifeguards, picnic pavilions, and paddleboard and kayak rentals. Parking is ample and suitable for tow vehicles.
The park's two lakes are stocked with bass, bream, crappie, and catfish and are open to bank and boat fishing with a valid Alabama fishing license. Small boat rentals and a launch are available near the campground.
Oak Mountain's stables offer guided trail rides on dedicated equestrian paths through the forest. Rides are suitable for beginners and seasonal hours apply.
The North Trailhead gives access to the park's longer backcountry routes along Double Oak Mountain, including scenic overlooks and the junction with Peavine Falls Trail. It is the preferred trail access for hikers seeking ridge views and longer distances.
Wonderful experience with this unit. Host was an excellent communicator and had everything set up for us upon our arrival. Could not have been more pleased with the unit, the cleanliness, and having everything as advertised. Would highly recommend.

We had a great experience with this camper. It was exactly as pictured, delivery and set up were great and the hosts left water, coffee and snacks for us as well. Great service and hospitality!

Oak Mountain State Park, AL, United States
Oak Mountain State Park sits just off Interstate 65 at exit 246 in Pelham, about 20 minutes (15 miles) south of downtown Birmingham and roughly 1.5 hours north of Montgomery. The main park roads are paved and RV-friendly, though interior roads climb steep grades toward ridge overlooks, so drivers of large rigs should use low gears and watch for sharp curves. There are no tunnels or weight-restricted bridges on the primary access route. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM), about 25 miles north of the park.
