Late spring through early fall, roughly May through September, offers the most reliable access and the most comfortable weather for walking the grounds and touring the historic buildings. Summer days are warm and dry in the Kittitas Valley, with cool evenings that suit RV travel. April and October are pleasant shoulder-season options with fewer visitors, though some interpretive buildings may have reduced hours. Winter visits are possible for grounds access, but snow and icy paths can limit exploration.

The original 1875 hand-hewn log cabin and the larger 1908 frame farmhouse are the centerpieces of a self-guided heritage tour. Interior access is typically available during scheduled open hours in the warm months.
A short, mostly flat interpretive loop follows Altapes Creek through riparian habitat and pasture. The walk connects historic outbuildings with shaded benches and signage about ranch life.
The relocated one-room Seaton Schoolhouse stands on the property and is open during park events. It illustrates rural Kittitas County education in the late nineteenth century.
Several preserved barns, a granary, a wagon shed, and a dairy barn display original farming and ranching equipment. Visitors can walk the farm yard and view machinery used over four generations of family operation.
Open shaded lawns with picnic tables provide a quiet stop along the I-90 corridor. The day-use area is well suited to a midday break for RV travelers crossing the Cascades.
Riparian cottonwoods and irrigated pastures attract songbirds, raptors, and waterfowl typical of the Kittitas Valley. Early morning visits during spring and fall migration are most productive.
Historic downtown Ellensburg lies about four miles west and offers brick-front shops, cafes, and Central Washington University. It is an easy add-on for RV travelers staying overnight at nearby private campgrounds.

Olmstead Place Historical State Park, WA, United States
The park sits in the Kittitas Valley about a 10 minute drive east of Ellensburg, roughly 110 miles and under two hours from Seattle via Interstate 90 and Snoqualmie Pass. Travelers from Spokane reach the area in about 170 miles, or roughly two and a half hours, on I-90 westbound. RV drivers should be prepared for the steep grades and sustained climbs of Snoqualmie Pass, where chains may be required in winter, and watch for crosswinds in the Kittitas Valley. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Yakima Air Terminal, with larger options at Seattle-Tacoma International and Spokane International.
