Mid-June through late August is the best window for RV travel, when daytime highs are warm, the lake is warm enough for swimming, and all facilities including the boat launch and water taps are operating. July is the busiest month, so reservations are recommended for peak weekends. Early June and the first two weeks of September are good shoulder-season choices with cooler nights, fewer bugs, and quieter campsites, though services may be reduced.

The park's long sandy beach on Stuart Lake is the main draw for visitors. Shallow, gently sloping water warms up by mid-summer, making it one of the more swimmable lakes in north-central BC. The day-use area has picnic tables and easy RV parking.
A concrete boat launch at the park provides access to Stuart Lake, one of BC's largest natural lakes. Motorboats, kayaks, and canoes can explore sheltered bays, the Stuart River outlet, and nearby islands. The launch parking area accommodates trucks with trailers.
Stuart Lake is popular for fishing rainbow trout, lake trout (char), kokanee, and burbot. Anglers launch from the park boat ramp or cast from the shoreline. A valid BC freshwater fishing licence is required.
The restored Hudson's Bay Company fur trading post is about 10 kilometres away in Fort St. James. Costumed interpreters present the history of one of BC's oldest continuously occupied European settlements. The site has a large parking lot that accommodates RVs.
A grassy day-use meadow and picnic shelter sit directly behind the beach. Short informal shoreline walks follow the lake edge through birch and spruce forest. The area is well suited to families and travellers with pets on leash.
The lake and wetlands along Sowchea Bay attract bald eagles, ospreys, loons, and waterfowl. Early morning and evening are the best viewing times from the beach or boat. Black bears are present in the area, so food must be stored securely in the RV.
The nearby town of Fort St. James offers groceries, fuel, and laundry for RV travellers restocking mid-trip. Cottonwood Park on the Stuart River waterfront has additional walking paths and interpretive signage. Large-vehicle parking is available along the main street.
This was an amazing experience. They were very easy to deal with, and quick to answer any questions we had. The camper has everything we needed and was extremely clean. I would definitely recommend.

Paarens Beach Provincial Park, BC, Canada
The park is about 8 kilometres west of Fort St. James via Sowchea Road, and roughly 60 kilometres (about 50 minutes) north of Vanderhoof on Highway 27. From Prince George the drive is approximately 160 kilometres and takes around two hours via Highway 16 west and Highway 27 north. The route is paved and suitable for large RVs with no tunnels or major steep passes, though the final few kilometres on Sowchea Road are narrower and should be driven slowly. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travellers is Prince George Airport (YXS).
