Late May through early October is the prime window for RV travel, when the family campground is fully open, the beach is staffed, and trails are clear of snow. July and August bring the warmest lake temperatures and peak demand, so weekend reservations should be booked well in advance. Late September and early October offer cooler nights, fewer bugs, and vivid fall color across the kettle moraine hills. Winter visits are possible for day use and cross-country skiing, but the campground closes for the season.

Powder Hill is one of the highest points in southeastern Wisconsin, topped by an observation tower with panoramic views of the kettle moraine landscape. A short forested trail from the parking area leads to the summit. The trailhead has a paved lot suitable for larger vehicles.
A segment of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail passes directly through the Pike Lake Unit, winding past kames, kettles, and glacial moraines. Day hikers can sample the route from trailheads inside the park. Interpretive signage highlights the glacial features along the way.
A sandy swim beach on the shore of Pike Lake is a focal point for summer day use. Shallow, roped swimming, a bathhouse, and picnic areas make it family-friendly. A large day-use lot accommodates RVs during the shoulder seasons.
Pike Lake is a 522-acre kettle lake popular for fishing largemouth bass, northern pike, walleye, and panfish. A concrete boat launch handles trailered boats, and kayaks and canoes are common on calmer days. The launch parking area can accommodate tow vehicles with trailers.
Short hiking loops branch directly from the family campground through mature hardwood forest and glacial terrain. These walkable, well-marked routes are ideal for evening strolls and birdwatching. No separate trailhead parking is needed for campers.
Visitors can enjoy groomed ski trails at Pike Lake in winter, with tracks set through the rolling kame-and-kettle terrain. Snowshoers can use ungroomed hiking trails. The day-use lot is plowed throughout the season.
Shaded picnic areas with tables and grills sit near the beach and day-use area. Reservable shelters accommodate group outings. Paved parking and restroom facilities are nearby.

Great to rent from. Second time renting. Very responsive. Thorough in showing us how to operate. Included DVDs for our young son to watch which added great personalization. Included games and chairs and everything a camper needs!

Pike Lake State Park, WI, United States
The park sits just off State Highway 60 near Hartford, roughly 35 miles northwest of downtown Milwaukee (about 45 minutes) and about 80 miles northeast of Madison (about 90 minutes). Most RVs reach the entrance via US-41/45 to WI-60, a straightforward route without tunnels or significant mountain grades, though the final approach includes typical rolling kettle-country hills. Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is the closest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers, roughly 50 miles southeast. Watch for posted low clearances on older county routes and use GPS routing set for RV height when leaving the main highway.
