Late May through early October is the prime window, when the park road and campsites are open, foliage is full, and the ponds are accessible for paddling and fishing. July and August bring the warmest weather and the most activity, while September and early October offer cooler nights and vivid fall color across the surrounding hills. Shoulder seasons can be buggy in late spring, and overnight temperatures drop quickly by mid-autumn, so RVers should plan heat and water management accordingly.

Canoeing and kayaking on May Pond, Mill Pond, and Butterfield Pond is a signature Pillsbury experience. The quiet, undeveloped shorelines offer excellent chances to spot loons, moose, and beavers. Small hand-launched boats are ideal; there are no developed marinas.
The long-distance Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway passes through Pillsbury State Park, giving hikers access to sections that climb ridges with views toward Mount Sunapee. Day hikers can sample portions for out-and-back walks from the park road. Trail conditions are rugged and often wet.
Pillsbury's ponds are stocked and home to warmwater species suited to light tackle and small boats. Anglers need a valid New Hampshire fishing license. Shoreline access is limited, so a canoe or kayak greatly expands options.
The park is one of the better moose-watching areas in southern New Hampshire, with frequent sightings around the ponds at dawn and dusk. Loons nest on the larger ponds in summer. Bring binoculars and keep a respectful distance.
Bear Pond Trail is a short forest walk to a quiet pond tucked into the park's interior. It offers a good introduction to Pillsbury's mixed hardwood forest without a strenuous climb. Footing includes roots and occasional wet sections.
Nearby Mount Sunapee State Park offers a summit chairlift ride, a beach on Lake Sunapee, and additional hiking, making it a strong RV day-trip complement to quiet Pillsbury. It lies a short drive north via NH Route 103. Parking is ample for tow vehicles and smaller RVs.
Pillsbury features a handful of remote campsites reachable only by canoe or kayak across its ponds. These offer a quiet backcountry experience within easy reach of an RV base camp. Campers must pack in all gear and pack out all trash.
Don was great and easy to work with. The Van was great and just as expected.

Pillsbury State Park, NH, United States
The park sits on NH Route 31 in Washington, roughly 30 miles northwest of Concord (about 45 minutes) and around 95 miles (about 2 hours) from Boston, Massachusetts. Manchester-Boston Regional Airport is the closest major airport for fly-and-rent trips, about 55 miles southeast. The final approach follows winding, hilly two-lane state highways through small towns, so RV drivers should watch for narrow shoulders, low-hanging branches on side roads, and steep grades; the internal park road is unpaved and rough, which limits access for larger motorhomes and trailers.
