Late June through August offers the most reliable weather, longest daylight hours, and full campground services, making it the best window for RV travel. Early summer brings iceberg viewing along the Strait of Belle Isle and fewer crowds, while September can be quieter with cooler nights and autumn colours. Shoulder-season travellers should be prepared for fog, wind, and rapidly changing coastal weather. The park is a seasonal operation and is not accessible for camping outside its summer operating window.

The park's wooded campground offers frontcountry tent and RV sites with access to washrooms, drinking water, and a sanitary dump station. Sites are set among spruce and fir for shelter from coastal wind.
Short walking routes and shoreline access let visitors explore the boreal forest, bogs, and bay views. Watch for seabirds, shorebirds, and moose browsing at forest edges.
Anglers can fish for brook trout and sea-run trout in streams and coastal waters around the park. A valid Newfoundland and Labrador fishing licence is required.
The UNESCO World Heritage Viking site at L'Anse aux Meadows is a short drive from the park and is one of the most significant archaeological sites in North America. RV-friendly parking is available at the visitor centre. parks.canada.ca/lhn-nhs/nl/meadows
Nearby Burnt Cape, near Raleigh, is a limestone barren known for rare arctic and alpine plants. The rough gravel access road is best suited to tow vehicles rather than large motorhomes.
In early summer, icebergs drift south through the Strait of Belle Isle and can be seen from shoreline viewpoints near the park. Minke and humpback whales may also appear in coastal waters.
The mix of boreal forest, wetlands, and coastline attracts a variety of songbirds, shorebirds, and seabirds. Spring and early summer are the most productive times for birders.

Pistolet Bay Provincial Park, NL, Canada
The park lies near the tip of the Great Northern Peninsula, reached by driving Route 430 (the Viking Trail) north from Deer Lake, roughly 450 km and about 6 hours of driving. From St. Anthony the drive is under an hour via Route 436 and Route 437. RV travellers should plan fuel stops carefully as services are spread out along the peninsula, watch for moose on the highway especially at dawn and dusk, and expect exposed, windy stretches on coastal sections. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent trips is St. Anthony Airport (YAY), with Deer Lake Regional Airport (YDF) as the main gateway for longer RV road trips up the peninsula.
