Late June through early September is the best window to visit, when Hood Canal sees its warmest, driest weather and calm paddling conditions. July and August bring the busiest boating traffic on the canal and the most reliable sunshine for shoreline activities. Shoulder months like May, June, and September offer milder temperatures, fewer visitors, and easier weekend availability at nearby RV campgrounds. Winter visits are possible thanks to the mild maritime climate, but expect frequent rain and shorter daylight hours.

Pleasant Harbor State Park, WA, United States

How to get to Pleasant Harbor State Park

The park sits along Hood Canal near Brinnon, roughly a 2 to 2.5 hour drive from Seattle via the Bainbridge Island or Bremerton ferries and U.S. Highway 101, or about 1.5 hours from Tacoma via WA 16 and Highway 101. Highway 101 along the canal is a paved two-lane route with some curves and moderate grades, so RVers should drive cautiously, watch for falling rock zones, and be aware of limited passing lanes. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), with ferry crossings adding time for larger rigs. Because the state park itself is primarily boat-access, most RVers stage at nearby private or state campgrounds and reach the park by watercraft.
