Spring, from March through early May, is the best time to visit, with mild temperatures, blooming dogwoods and mountain laurel, and comfortable camping weather before humidity peaks. Fall, from mid-October through November, offers cooler nights, fewer bugs, and colorful hardwood foliage around Levi Mill Pond. Summer is hot and humid with frequent thunderstorms and heavy mosquito pressure, so RV renters usually want working air conditioning. Winter is mild and quiet but brings occasional cold snaps and the chance of overnight freezes.

The Coquina Trail is a short interpretive loop around Levi Mill Pond that showcases the park's unusual coquina rock outcrops and cypress-lined shoreline. It is the easiest way to see the park's signature scenery without committing to a long hike.
The Hilltop Trail climbs into the mixed hardwood slopes above the pond and links to longer loops through the park's Sandhills terrain. Moderate grades and tree roots make sturdy shoes a good idea.
The Wateree Passage of the Palmetto Trail passes through and near the park, connecting Poinsett to Manchester State Forest. Long-distance hikers and mountain bikers can use trailheads near the park entrance.
Levi Mill Pond offers bank and small-boat fishing for bass, bream, and catfish in a scenic cypress-swamp setting. A valid South Carolina freshwater fishing license is required for anglers age 16 and older.
Visitors can launch canoes, kayaks, and small jon boats on the pond to paddle among cypress knees and Spanish moss. The park rents paddle craft seasonally at the park office.
The park preserves stone and timber buildings constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, including the bathhouse and picnic shelters. Interpretive signs explain how the CCC shaped the landscape visitors enjoy today.
Adjacent Manchester State Forest offers horse trails, equestrian day-use, and seasonal hunting areas that expand recreation options for park visitors. Check South Carolina Forestry Commission rules before entering during hunt seasons.

Hailey & Rod were very friendly and easy to deal with. Camper set up when I arrived. Rod walked me through everything (my first time in camper) would definitely recommend renting from Hailey & Rod!

Poinsett State Park, SC, United States
The park lies about 18 miles southwest of Sumter and roughly 40 miles southeast of Columbia via US-378 and SC-261, a drive of 45 to 60 minutes from the state capital. Charleston is about two and a half hours south via I-95 and US-378. The access roads are flat two-lane rural highways with no tunnels, mountain passes, or significant grades, so large motorhomes and trailers can reach the park easily, though the final park road is narrow and winding with low-hanging branches in places. Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) is the closest major airport for fly-and-rent trips.
