July and August are the best months to visit, when water temperatures in St. Georges Bay peak, lifeguards are typically on duty, and the dune boardwalks are fully open. Late June and early September offer quieter shoulder-season visits with warm days, cooler nights, and easier parking for larger RVs. The park is a day-use site that is generally unserviced outside the summer season, so facilities such as washrooms and supervised swimming are not available in the off-season. Winter storms can leave snow and drifting sand on the access road.

Swimming is the main draw at Pomquet, with warm, shallow water on St. Georges Bay and a supervised area in peak summer. The gradual sandy bottom is well suited to families and novice swimmers.
A series of interpretive boardwalks leads from the parking area across the protected parabolic dunes to the beach. Signage highlights Acadian coastal ecology and the role of marram grass in stabilizing the sand.
The long, wide beach invites kilometres of flat walking, shell collecting, and shorebird viewing. Piping plovers and other shorebirds nest in the area, so posted closures should be respected.
Shaded picnic tables, change houses, and vault toilets make Pomquet a convenient midday stop for RV road-trippers on the Marine Drive or Ceilidh Trail. The picnic area sits just behind the dune line with views toward Cape Breton.
The dune, salt marsh, and estuary habitats around the park support a variety of shorebirds, ducks, and raptors. Spring and fall migration periods are especially productive for birders.
The sheltered waters off the beach and the nearby Pomquet Harbour estuary offer calm paddling conditions on settled days. Paddlers should launch from the beach and check wind forecasts, as St. Georges Bay can build chop quickly.
The university town of Antigonish is about 15 minutes west and offers groceries, fuel, restaurants, and a historic downtown. It is a practical resupply stop for RV travellers using Pomquet as a beach day before continuing to Cape Breton.

Pomquet Beach Provincial Park, NS, Canada
Pomquet Beach is reached via Exit 35 off Highway 104 (the Trans-Canada Highway), then about 6 kilometres north on Taylor Road and Beach Road to the park. Antigonish is about 15 kilometres west (roughly 15 minutes), Port Hawkesbury and the Canso Causeway to Cape Breton are about 60 kilometres east (about 45 minutes), and Halifax is roughly 225 kilometres southwest (about 2.5 hours). RV drivers should note that the final approach on Beach Road is a narrow rural route with a sand-surfaced parking area that can be soft after heavy rain, and there are no steep grades or tunnels of concern on the main highway approach. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travellers is Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ).
