Late June through early September offers the warmest weather, calmest Green Bay waters, and full access to the campground, boat launch, and trail network. May and late September into October are excellent shoulder seasons for RV travel, with cooler nights, fewer crowds, and strong fall color along the bluff. Winter brings snow and ice to Door County, and the campground is typically closed while day-use areas remain open for skiing and snowshoeing. Peak summer weekends fill quickly, so reserve sites well ahead.

The park's bluff-top observation area is the signature viewpoint on the Door County peninsula, roughly 150 feet above the water with sweeping views of Sturgeon Bay and Green Bay. A tower and overlook platforms provide panoramic vistas of the bay and surrounding shoreline. Trailhead parking nearby accommodates standard vehicles; larger RVs should use the main day-use lot.
Potawatomi State Park marks the eastern end of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. The trail stretches nearly 1,200 miles across Wisconsin, from its western end at Interstate State Park on the St. Croix River in Polk County to its eastern end in Potawatomi State Park in Door County. Hikers can complete the final miles or tackle a short out-and-back segment from the park.
The Hemlock Trail is a wooded hike along the park's bluff edge. It rolls through mature hemlock and hardwood forest with periodic overlooks of the bay below. Surfaces are natural with some roots and uneven footing.
A paved multi-use trail follows a portion of the park corridor suitable for cycling and walking. Riders enjoy gentle grades and wooded scenery that connect campground loops to the tower area and picnic grounds. Bike racks are available near trailheads.
The park operates a boat launch on Sturgeon Bay for access to Green Bay waters. Anglers target smallmouth bass, walleye, and northern pike from boats or along the rocky shoreline. Trailer parking is provided at the launch area.
The day-use picnic area sits near the shoreline with tables, grills, and easy bay access. Short walking paths lead to overlooks along the limestone bluffs that define the park. Parking lots accommodate tow vehicles and smaller RVs.
In winter, park trails convert to groomed cross-country ski routes and snowshoe paths. The bluff-top terrain offers quiet forest travel with bay views when conditions allow. Day-use parking remains plowed while the campground is closed.
The camper was perfect for our camping trip. The camper was clean and clearly well maintained. The bunks were great for the kids and the queen bed was perfect for adults. The add-on grill was fantastic for cooking. Justin and his wife set up on our site, then we were ready to camp! Communication was excellent. Justin was a fantastic host! Thanks.

Potawatomi State Park, WI, United States
The park entrance is roughly 4 miles southwest of downtown Sturgeon Bay via Park Drive, about a 45-minute drive from Green Bay and roughly 2.5 to 3 hours from Milwaukee via I-43. Access is straightforward for RVs, using WI-42/57 to Sturgeon Bay, with no tunnels, mountain passes, or major grade restrictions, though the final park roads are narrow and wooded with tight turns near the campground loops. Austin Straubel International Airport in Green Bay is the closest commercial airport for fly-and-rent trips. Watch the Sturgeon Bay bridge corridor for seasonal traffic and check campground length limits before booking a site.
