Prince Gallitzin State Park, PA, United States
The park sits in Cambria County about 15 minutes north of Patton and roughly 30 to 40 minutes northwest of Altoona via PA Route 36 and PA Route 53. Pittsburgh is about a 2 hour drive to the west on US 22, and Harrisburg is approximately 3 hours to the east. RVers should plan for mountain grades on US 22 and nearby routes crossing the Allegheny Front, and tall rigs should stick to numbered state highways (PA 36 and PA 53) to avoid low-clearance structures on older secondary roads. The closest commercial airport for fly-and-rent trips is Johnstown-Cambria County (JST), with larger service available at Pittsburgh International (PIT) and University Park (SCE) in State College.
Late May through early September is the prime window, when the beach is guarded, boat rentals run, and the campground is fully open with warm days well suited to swimming and paddling. June and early September offer a balance of pleasant weather and thinner crowds compared with peak July and August weekends. Early fall (late September and October) brings strong foliage color across the Allegheny Plateau and cool, comfortable nights ideal for RV travel. Winter visits are possible for ice fishing and snow sports, but expect cold temperatures and a seasonal campground closure.
Main campground closed for the season; limited winter day use only.
Campground closed; ice fishing and winter sports conditions vary.
Campground typically still closed in early spring; check opening dates.
Shoulder season; campground opens mid to late spring. Cool nights.

Peak foliage on the Allegheny Plateau; reserve early for fall weekends.
Main campground closes for the season; day use remains open.
Campground closed; winter activities such as ice fishing depend on conditions.
Glendale Lake is the 1,635-acre centerpiece of the park and is open to motorboats, sailboats, kayaks, and canoes. Public launches and seasonal rentals near the marina make it easy to get on the water. The lake has a 20 horsepower limit, keeping conditions calm for paddlers and anglers.
The park features a guarded sand beach on Glendale Lake open during the summer season. A bathhouse, snack concession, and picnic areas are steps from the water. Lifeguards are typically on duty from late May through early September.
Glendale Lake is a well-stocked warmwater fishery with muskellunge, bass, walleye, crappie, and panfish. Shoreline access, fishing piers, and boat-in spots are available across the park. A valid Pennsylvania fishing license is required.
The park maintains roughly 20 miles of trails winding through forests, wetlands, and lakeshore habitat. Popular options include the Beaver Dam Trail and the Killbuck Trail, which offer gentle terrain suitable for most visitors. Trailhead parking can handle tow vehicles and smaller RVs.
The park is a regionally important birding area with bald eagles, ospreys, waterfowl, and songbirds commonly observed around Glendale Lake. Beavers, white-tailed deer, and river otters also inhabit the park. Bring binoculars and visit at dawn or dusk for the best sightings.
Several picnic areas with tables, grills, pavilions, and modern restrooms are scattered along the lakeshore. Many pavilions can be reserved in advance and several day-use lots have pull-through space suitable for tow vehicles. Playgrounds and open fields are convenient for families.
When conditions allow, the park opens areas for ice fishing, ice skating, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling on designated trails. The main campground is closed in winter, but day-use parking remains accessible. Check park conditions before traveling for ice thickness and trail status.
What an incredible first experience! Tony is an outstanding host. He thoroughly went over the RV with me and communication was on point. The value matched the cost. The RV was so fun to drive. It was super clean, and very comfortable. We will be renting again for sure!

This was a great RV for our camping trip to see fall foliage. It slept our group of 3 adults and 2 children very comfortably (particularly with a slider that allowed for a soft and full queen bed), had space to socialize, play games, and warm up from the outside. The stove and oven cooked beautifully and had enough heat to power through a large meal; the water could be adjusted to very hot, which was fantastic. The bathroom was roomy enough for a shower and sink. The fridge/freezer had plenty of space and kept everything nice and cold. I can’t say enough good things about the heat, it was powerful and immediate; we ended up being in some unexpectedly frosty and windy weather but never even noticed inside. Everyone slept like babies! There is storage space in a large compartment on the outside and multiple small cabinets for things inside. The power and water hook-up is a breeze, the dumping the same. You have large windows and plenty of inside lighting. As the driver, I appreciated how large my windshield viewing area was and it handled well. The only small flaw was the cracking and flaking of the seat and armrest upholstery but that was strictly cosmetic and had no negative impact on our enjoyment. Tony was a pleasure to deal with and very responsive. A positive experience all the way around!

Shawn and Melinda made it easy to hold a memorable Penn State tailgate, even for someone like me who is new to RV rental. The Beaver Stadium RV lot didn’t have RV hookups so they made sure we had water and extra gas for the generator. They thought if every detail. The RV was super clean and well-stocked. They had excellent communication and were so friendly and helpful. I would 100% rent from them again.

This was my first time renting an RV and it was the smoothest process! The hosts were in contact with me before delivery so I knew exactly when they would arrive. They were so friendly and set up the entire camper and gave me a tour. We had an awesome experience, thank you!
