Mid-June through early September is the prime window, when daytime highs in the region typically reach the low 20s Celsius and the lake is warm enough for swimming, paddling, and waterskiing. July and August offer the most reliable weather but also the busiest campground, so reservations are recommended. Late May and September are quieter shoulder-season options with cooler nights and fewer bugs, though services may be reduced. Winters are cold and snowy, with the campground closed outside the operating season.

The park's sandy day-use beach on Purden Lake is the main summer draw for families. Swimmers should stay within the designated area, as an abrupt drop-off is marked with floats and there are no lifeguards on duty. bcparks.ca/purden-lake-park/
Canoeing and kayaking are popular on Purden Lake. Boaters should keep a close eye on the weather, as Purden Lake is subject to sudden, heavy winds that can transform the lake surface into dangerous whitecaps. bcparks.ca/purden-lake-park/
Purden Lake is a well-known angling spot in the Prince George area. Fishing for rainbow trout and burbot is popular, and anyone fishing in British Columbia must have an appropriate licence. bcparks.ca/purden-lake-park/
Short shoreline trails let campers stretch their legs after a day on the road. Lakeside walking trails travel through a great diversity of plant life and provide scenic views of the area. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/purden_lk/
Purden Lake is open to motorized water sports in addition to paddling. There are waterskiing opportunities in the park, with a special separate beach developed for boaters and waterskiers adjacent to the swimming area. bcparks.ca/purden-lake-park/
The forested shoreline and quiet lake support a wide range of wildlife close to the campground. Visitors may observe beaver, snowshoe hares, squirrels, and porcupines, while bald eagles and ruffed grouse may be seen in the park and the call of the common loon often breaks the evening silence. bcparks.ca/purden-lake-park/
Paved campground loops make for easy family cycling near your RV site. Bicycles must keep to roadways, and bicycle helmets are mandatory in British Columbia. bcparks.ca/purden-lake-park/

Lidia was a perfect host and very easy to communicate with. When we arrived the trailer was set up beautifully, very clean and even came with coffee and some other essentials that was a nice touch. I would definitely recommend booking your camping holiday with her!

Purden Lake Provincial Park, BC, Canada
Purden Lake Park is located 64 km east of Prince George on the Yellowhead Highway 16, roughly a 45 to 60 minute drive from the city. From Prince George, the route is a paved, two-lane highway suitable for RVs, with no tunnels or major weight restrictions, though drivers should watch for rolling grades, wildlife on the road, and winter ice and snow outside summer months. Travellers coming from the east via McBride and the Robson Valley face a longer drive of about 2.5 to 3 hours on Highway 16, which includes mountain terrain and exposed stretches where sudden weather can affect driving. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent RV trips is Prince George Airport (YXS).
