July and August offer the warmest, driest weather on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island and the most reliable logging-road conditions for towing or driving larger rigs. June and September are good shoulder-season choices with fewer visitors, though rain and fog are more common. Winter and early spring bring heavy storms, which appeal to storm watchers but make the gravel access road muddy and rutted, so most RV travelers avoid this period.

The Raft Cove Trail runs approximately 2 km from the parking lot to the main beach and takes about 40 minutes on average. The first 300 metres fall outside the park boundary, and hikers should use caution in this section. The trail can be muddy and rooty, so sturdy footwear is recommended. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/raft_cove/
Raft Cove is a destination for experienced surfers seeking uncrowded west coast breaks. The remoteness of the park, combined with good waves, makes it a great place to surf away from larger crowds. Surfers should be aware of extremely dangerous undercurrents at this location. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/raft_cove/
Raft Cove offers spectacular views of a rugged west coast beach environment and is a great place for storm watching thanks to its exposure and impressive waves. Fall and winter bring the largest swells rolling in off the open Pacific. Visitors should watch for unusually large rogue waves that occasionally hit the beach and keep well back from the surf. bcparks.ca/raft-cove-park/
Raft Cove supports a significant population of black bears that forage along creek beds and the beach. Wolves, cougars, black-tailed deer, raccoons, river otters, red squirrels, and a variety of bird species can also be seen in the area. Keep a safe distance and store food securely at all times. bcparks.ca/raft-cove-park/
The park features an estuary at the mouth of the Macjack River that offers visitors the chance to see river otters and waterfowl. The estuary is best explored on foot from the beach at lower tides. Wear waterproof footwear and watch for changing tides. bcparks.ca/raft-cove-park/
Backpackers can carry in overnight gear and set up camp on the long crescent-shaped sandy beach at Raft Cove. A backcountry camping permit is required where fees are charged, and registration is available up to two weeks in advance through the BC Parks reservation service. Pack out all garbage, practice Leave No Trace, and store food in bear-resistant containers. bcparks.ca/reservations/backcountry-camping/permit-registration/
The long sandy beach and rugged coastline offer excellent beachcombing and landscape photography opportunities. Driftwood, sea stacks, and dramatic Pacific scenery are highlights. Keep children away from the surf, as rogue waves are capable of pulling a person into the water. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/raft_cove/

Raft Cove Provincial Park, BC, Canada
From Port Hardy, the nearest town with services, it is roughly 65 km southwest to the trailhead, with the final stretch on active gravel logging roads out of Holberg via Ronning Main to approximately km 25. Drive times from Port Hardy run around 2 to 2.5 hours depending on road conditions, and the closest communities are Port Hardy, Holberg, and Winter Harbour. RV drivers should note that access is by active logging roads where loaded logging trucks have the right of way, pullouts should be used to yield, and large motorhomes or long trailers are not recommended due to narrow gravel surfaces, blind corners, and rough sections. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent trips is Port Hardy Airport (YZT), with larger service via Comox (YQQ) or Nanaimo (YCD) further south on the island.
