Late June through August is the prime window, when Dauphin Lake is warm enough for swimming and all campground services are running. July offers the most reliable warm weather but also the busiest weekends, so reservations are recommended. Shoulder visits in early June and September can be pleasant and quiet, though water levels and wind on Dauphin Lake can change conditions quickly and some services may be reduced.

The long sand and gravel beach at Rainbow Beach is the park's signature feature and fronts directly onto Dauphin Lake. Shallow, slowly deepening water and summer temperatures make it a popular family swimming spot. There are no lifeguards on duty.
Dauphin Lake is one of Manitoba's largest fisheries, known for walleye, yellow perch, northern pike, and sauger. Anglers can fish from shore or launch a boat from the park's ramp. A valid Manitoba angling licence is required.
The park's boat launch provides direct access to Dauphin Lake for motorboats, kayaks, and canoes. Winds can pick up quickly on the open water, so paddlers should check forecasts before heading out.
Riding Mountain National Park is roughly an hour's drive south and offers extensive hiking, wildlife viewing, and the townsite of Wasagaming on Clear Lake. It makes a natural day-trip pairing with a stay at Rainbow Beach.
Dauphin Lake and the surrounding wetlands sit on a major prairie flyway and host pelicans, cormorants, grebes, and a variety of shorebirds. Dawn and dusk along the beach offer the best viewing.
The day-use area has picnic tables and open grass near the beach, making it an easy stop for travelers driving Highway 20. It works well as a midday break between Dauphin and the Interlake.
Flat, low-traffic rural roads around the park are suitable for casual cycling and e-bikes. Riders can loop through the farmland south of Ochre River for a quiet morning outing.
