Late June through early September offers the warmest, driest weather and the best river swimming conditions. Spring and fall shoulder seasons bring lower campground occupancy and lush green forest, but expect frequent rain typical of southwest Washington. Winter camping is possible in mild spells, though the area sees heavy rainfall and occasional river flooding.

A short, easy walk leads from the day-use area to a viewpoint over the small falls on the Chehalis River. The falls are the park's namesake feature and are reached on a flat path suitable for most visitors.
A popular summer swimming hole sits below the falls with a gravel bar and calm pools. The riverbank is shaded by old-growth forest and is a central gathering spot in warm weather.
An easy loop through towering Douglas firs and western red cedars winds past CCC-era stone work. The trail offers a quiet introduction to Pacific Northwest lowland forest.
This rail-trail connects through the park and runs from Chehalis toward South Bend, passing farmland and river crossings. Riders and walkers can access the trail directly from the park entrance.
The park includes a separate equestrian area with trails winding through forest south of the highway. Horse trailers can use the dedicated parking area near the horse camp.
The Chehalis River supports seasonal runs of steelhead and trout accessible from the park's riverbank. A Washington fishing license is required and regulations vary by season.
Stone and log picnic shelters built by Civilian Conservation Corps crews in the 1930s remain in use today. These structures are part of the park's historic legacy and are listed on heritage registers.
Don and his wife were great hosts! The RV was in great condition, ran well, and they were both easy to communicate with. We were happy to see they even provided amenities such as kitchen appliances, plates, utensils, chairs and a BBQ. We would definitely go through them on our next trip if the RV is available!

The Leggs were really great and we appreciated the supplies that were included. There were camp chairs and even an outdoor grill.

Rainbow Falls State Park, WA, United States
The park sits on State Route 6 about 17 miles west of Chehalis and Interstate 5, roughly a 30 minute drive. From Olympia it is about 60 miles south, and from Portland about 110 miles north. SR-6 is a two-lane rural highway with gentle grades and is generally easy for large RVs, though drivers should watch for logging trucks, tight curves near Pe Ell, and narrow bridges. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent RV travelers is Seattle-Tacoma International, about two hours north.
