Late May through early October is the most comfortable window for RV travelers, offering warm daytime temperatures, open trails, and reliable access to the summit road. September and early October bring peak hardwood fall color across the ridge along with lighter crowds. July and August are warmest and busiest, especially on weekends. Winter turns the mountain into a ski and snowshoe destination, but the access road can be icy and is not ideal for large RVs.

The stone observation tower at the top of Rib Mountain is the park's signature landmark and offers panoramic views over the Wisconsin River valley and the city of Wausau. The tower is a short walk from the upper parking area, making it one of the most accessible viewpoints in the park.
Quarry Trail traces the path of a historic quartzite quarry along the mountain's flank, passing rock outcrops and mixed hardwood forest. It is one of the most popular routes in the park and links into the broader trail network near the summit.
Turkey Vulture Trail is a ridgeline route known for open views and rocky footing along the upper mountain. Hikers often spot raptors riding the thermals above the ridge.
Homestead Trail climbs the southern slope of Rib Mountain through mature forest and boulder fields. It provides a steadier ascent option between the lower park and the summit area.
Mountain bikers staying at Rib Mountain often ride at the nearby Nine Mile County Forest Recreation Area, which offers a large network of singletrack a short drive away. The park itself focuses on hiking rather than cycling on most of its trails.
Granite Peak Ski Area operates on the slopes of Rib Mountain and is the largest downhill ski resort in Wisconsin. RV visitors in winter can combine skiing or snowboarding with snowshoeing on designated park trails.
The summit area includes picnic shelters and several overlooks facing Wausau and the surrounding forested hills. It is a low-effort way to experience the park for travelers who want views without a long hike.

Rib Mountain State Park, WI, United States
The park is about 5 miles southwest of downtown Wausau via Interstate 39 and County Highway N, roughly a 10 minute drive. From Stevens Point the trip is about 40 miles or 45 minutes south on I-39, and Minneapolis is roughly 230 miles (about 4 hours) to the west via US-29. RV drivers should note that the summit access road is steep and winding with tight switchbacks, so very large motorhomes and long trailers are better left at a nearby campground or day-use lot. Central Wisconsin Airport in Mosinee is the nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent trips, about 15 miles south of the park.
