Winter visits are possible for ice fishing and day use, but expect cold temperatures and limited services.

Rifle Gap Reservoir is a roughly 360-acre lake with a concrete boat ramp that supports motorboats, sailboats, kayaks, and paddleboards. The open water is popular for water skiing and wakeboarding in summer. The ramp parking lot accommodates trucks with trailers.
The reservoir is stocked and managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife for rainbow trout, walleye, smallmouth and largemouth bass, yellow perch, and pike. Anglers fish from shore, from boats, and through the ice in winter. A valid Colorado fishing license is required.
Rifle Gap is one of the more unusual dive destinations in Colorado, with clear water and submerged features that draw certified divers. A designated dive area is typically marked near shore. Divers should check current park regulations and flag requirements before entering the water.
A designated swim beach on the reservoir provides a sandy shoreline with picnic tables and restrooms nearby. Swimming is at the visitor's own risk with no lifeguards on duty. Paved parking is close to the beach for easy access from the campground.
Short trails and open terrain within the park offer opportunities to spot mule deer, waterfowl, raptors, and smaller mammals. Trails are generally short and non-technical, suitable for casual hikers. Bring sun protection and water, as much of the park is exposed.
Rifle Falls State Park lies about 10 miles north on Highway 325 and features a triple waterfall and limestone caves that can be explored on short walking trails. It pairs naturally with a Rifle Gap camping stay for a half-day outing. Parking at the falls is limited for large rigs, so consider driving a tow vehicle.
Paved park roads and the low-traffic access off Highway 325 provide enjoyable riding with reservoir views. Cyclists can extend routes north toward Rifle Falls and Rifle Mountain Park for a longer day on pavement and light gravel. Watch for weekend traffic in peak months.

Rifle Gap State Park, CO, United States
The park sits about 7 miles north of the town of Rifle via Colorado Highway 13 and Highway 325, roughly a 10 to 15 minute drive from Interstate 70. Grand Junction is about 60 miles west (a one-hour drive) and Glenwood Springs is about 30 miles east (a 40-minute drive); Denver is approximately 180 miles east via I-70, a 3 to 4 hour drive that crosses high passes including Vail Pass at over 10,600 feet, so check brakes, cooling, and weather before towing. Glenwood Canyon on I-70 has tunnels with posted height and hazmat restrictions and is subject to closures from rockfall or weather. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent trips is Grand Junction Regional Airport, with Aspen/Pitkin County and Eagle County Regional also within driving distance.
