Best time to visit Riverside State Park

Late spring through early fall, roughly May through September, is the best window for RV travel to Riverside State Park. Summer days are warm and dry with long daylight hours ideal for paddling, cycling the Spokane River Centennial Trail, and exploring the Bowl and Pitcher. Shoulder months of May and September offer cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and easier campground reservations. Winters bring snow and icy park roads, so RV visits in December through February are limited to day use for most visitors.

Things to do at Riverside State Park

  • Bowl and Pitcher Rock Formation Easy
    RV parking available

The Bowl and Pitcher is the park's signature landmark, a cluster of towering basalt rocks along the Spokane River reached by a swinging suspension bridge. The basalt rocks tend to weather into rounded, bulbous masses like those seen at the Bowl and Pitcher, shapes that result from the curved joints that form in the lava as it cools. A large day-use lot at the trailhead accommodates RVs. nps.gov/places/bowl-and-pitcher-riverside-state-park.htm

  • Spokane River Centennial Trail Easy
    RV parking available

The paved Spokane River Centennial Trail runs through Riverside State Park and links dozens of miles of riverside terrain between Nine Mile Falls and the Idaho state line. It is popular for cycling, walking, and running, with multiple RV-friendly trailheads inside the park.

  • Little Spokane River Natural Area Easy
    RV parking available

The Little Spokane River Natural Area is a quiet paddling and birding destination on the park's northern edge. Kayakers and canoeists can float the gentle river through marshes and wetlands rich with wildlife, with a vehicle shuttle between put-in and take-out.

  • Deep Creek Canyon Trail Moderate
    RV parking available

Deep Creek Canyon offers a scenic hike through a basalt-walled canyon with seasonal waterfalls and fossil beds. The route links with the wider trail network and provides a quieter alternative to the Bowl and Pitcher area.

  • ORV Area Moderate
    RV parking available

Riverside State Park maintains a dedicated off-road vehicle area with miles of trails for motorcycles, ATVs, and 4x4s. RV travelers towing toy haulers can stage from nearby day-use lots before heading out on the sand and dirt loops.

  • Nine Mile Recreation Area Easy
    RV parking available

The Nine Mile Recreation Area sits on a quiet stretch of the Spokane River upstream of Nine Mile Dam. Visitors launch boats, fish, and picnic along the reservoir, with a boat ramp and day-use parking suitable for RVs and trailers.

  • Spokane House Interpretive Center

The Spokane House Interpretive Center marks the site of the first non-Indigenous settlement in Washington at the confluence of the Spokane and Little Spokane rivers. Seasonal exhibits explain the fur-trading history of the region, and the adjacent lot has room for RV day-use parking.

This would be our 2nd time renting an rv. First time from Garrett. We wanted a bigger trailer for our family and Garrett’s was perfect. Garrett actually reached out to me before I could contact him which was terrific. The whole booking process and pick up and drop off was super easy. We had a question and he responded almost immediately, the trailer came with instructions on how to set up and use it in easy terms. It has everything you need for your camping trip from just a weekend to 2 or 3 weeks. And when we wanted to extend our stay it was approved by Garrett and Rveazy in under 5 minutes. We camped for 6 nights and had amazing time. Highly recommend this trailer.
