Best time to visit Scioto Trail State Park

Late spring through early fall is the prime window, with May, June, September, and early October offering warm days, cooler evenings, and full campground services. Midsummer brings the busiest weekends and the warmest swimming conditions at Caldwell Lake, so midweek stays are easier for larger RVs. Fall color on the surrounding ridges peaks in mid to late October and is a highlight of the season. Winter visits are quieter but facilities are limited, so RVers should confirm site availability and water status before arrival.

How to get to Scioto Trail State Park

The park is about 10 miles south of Chillicothe, Ohio, via U.S. Route 23, roughly a 1-hour drive from Columbus and about 1.5 hours from Cincinnati. RVers typically exit U.S. 23 onto State Route 372, which is a narrow, winding, and hilly park road with tight curves and steep grades, so larger motorhomes and long trailers should take it slowly and watch for low-hanging branches. There are no major tunnels or weight-restricted routes on the approach, but the final miles into the campground are rural and not suitable for fast driving. John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) is the nearest large airport for fly-and-rent trips.
