Best time to visit Sesquicentennial State Park

Spring, from March through May, and fall, from October through November, offer the most comfortable weather with mild days, cool nights, and lower humidity. Summer is hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so shaded pine campsites and early-morning trail use help. Winters are mild and the park stays open year-round, making it a viable cold-weather stop for RV travelers passing through the Southeast. Wildflowers and dogwoods bloom in April, while fall brings pleasant paddling conditions on the lake.

How to get to Sesquicentennial State Park

The park sits just off Two Notch Road (US 1) in northeast Columbia, about 15 minutes from downtown Columbia and roughly 2 hours by RV from Charlotte, North Carolina, or Charleston, South Carolina. Most travelers arrive via Interstate 77 or Interstate 20, both of which are standard interstate grades with no tunnels or mountain passes, making access straightforward for any size RV. The entrance road is paved and suitable for large motorhomes and travel trailers, though interior campground loops have tight turns typical of a CCC-era park.
