Spring, from March through May, and fall, from October through November, offer the most comfortable weather with mild days, cool nights, and lower humidity. Summer is hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so shaded pine campsites and early-morning trail use help. Winters are mild and the park stays open year-round, making it a viable cold-weather stop for RV travelers passing through the Southeast. Wildflowers and dogwoods bloom in April, while fall brings pleasant paddling conditions on the lake.

The Sandhills Nature Trail is a short, easy loop through longleaf pine and oak Sandhills habitat near the lake. It introduces visitors to the park's unique upland ecosystem and is suitable for all ability levels.
The Lake Loop Trail circles the park's 30-acre lake and is a favorite for walkers, joggers, and anglers. The flat, shaded path offers frequent lake views and access to fishing piers.
Jackson Creek Trail is a longer hiking route that winds through bottomland hardwoods along a small creek. Expect some roots and gentle elevation changes through mature forest.
Sesquicentennial offers over 10 miles of singletrack open to mountain bikes, maintained in partnership with local cycling groups. Trails range from beginner-friendly flow to intermediate technical sections.
The 30-acre park lake is stocked for bass, bream, and catfish and permits electric motors only. Jon boats, kayaks, and pedal boats are available for rent seasonally.
A two-story log house originally built in the mid-1700s stands near the park office after being relocated to the park. Interpretive signage explains its role in early South Carolina backcountry settlement.
Sesquicentennial connects to a segment of the statewide Palmetto Trail, South Carolina's cross-state hiking and biking path. Campers can step directly from the park onto long-distance trail sections.
Congaree National Park, home to the largest intact old-growth bottomland hardwood forest in the southeastern United States, lies about 30 minutes south. The boardwalk loop and Cedar Creek paddling trail make an easy day trip from the campground.

Sesquicentennial State Park, SC, United States
The park sits just off Two Notch Road (US 1) in northeast Columbia, about 15 minutes from downtown Columbia and roughly 2 hours by RV from Charlotte, North Carolina, or Charleston, South Carolina. Most travelers arrive via Interstate 77 or Interstate 20, both of which are standard interstate grades with no tunnels or mountain passes, making access straightforward for any size RV. The entrance road is paved and suitable for large motorhomes and travel trailers, though interior campground loops have tight turns typical of a CCC-era park. Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE), about 20 miles southwest, is the closest option for fly-and-rent travelers.
