Late spring through early fall is the prime window, with May, June, September, and October offering warm days, comfortable evenings, and reliable river levels for paddling. Summer brings the greenest scenery and best swimming weather, though afternoon thunderstorms are common in the valley. October delivers peak fall color along the ridges and bends of the Shenandoah. Winter visits are possible for day-use, but expect cold temperatures, occasional snow, and limited services in the area.

The park provides canoe and kayak access to one of Virginia's most scenic float stretches, the meandering Seven Bends of the North Fork. Paddlers share the river with bald eagles, herons, and smallmouth bass. Flat parking areas near the river accommodate vehicles with trailers.
Seven Bends State Park features a growing network of hiking and multi-use trails across wooded hillsides, open meadows, and riverside flats. Trails in the state park area are designated as non-motorized use only. Expect a mix of easy riverside walks and rolling hill climbs.
The North Fork of the Shenandoah is known for productive smallmouth bass fishing, plus sunfish and catfish. Anglers can wade from the park's river banks or launch a small boat. A Virginia freshwater fishing license is required.
A short drive east of the park leads to the Woodstock Tower on Massanutten Mountain. The historic structure was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and offers sweeping views of the Seven Bends in the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. The access road is narrow and steep, better suited to tow vehicles than large motorhomes.
The mix of river, meadow, and forest habitat supports a wide variety of birds, including bald eagles, ospreys, and songbirds. Quiet early mornings along the riverbanks are especially productive for wildlife photography. Bring binoculars and follow leave-no-trace practices.
Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive are about an hour's drive east of Seven Bends. Just 75 miles from the bustle of Washington, D.C., Shenandoah National Park is a land bursting with cascading waterfalls, spectacular vistas, fields of wildflowers, and quiet wooded hollows. The park offers hundreds of miles of hiking, including sections of the Appalachian Trail. nps.gov/shen/
The surrounding George Washington and Jefferson National Forests offer additional trails, overlooks, and primitive camping. The Lee Ranger District covers recreation opportunities across several counties in the northern Shenandoah Valley. RVers can find dispersed sites and developed campgrounds within an easy drive. fs.usda.gov/r08/gwj
From the beginning of my inquiry, Michael was very communicative and prompt. Booking of their trailer was very easy. He walked me through every portion of the trailer and allowed me to come in advance to ensure I knew how to operate everything. The cleanliness of the camper was above par! They had everything one could need on a camping trip and all I had to bring was food and clothes - they took care of everything else (e.g., linens, towels, soap, dishes, etc.). Easy, relaxing experience!

Seven Bends State Park, VA, United States
The park sits just outside Woodstock, Virginia, roughly a 10 minute drive from Interstate 81 exits 283 and 291. It is about 90 miles (a 1.5 to 2 hour drive) west of Washington, D.C., and around 40 miles north of Harrisonburg. RV drivers should note that access roads are narrow, rural, and include some gravel sections with tight turns, so larger rigs should approach slowly and use the designated parking areas. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), about 75 miles to the northeast.
