Late June through early September offers the most reliable weather for picnicking and river access, with warm days and long daylight hours. July and August are peak months for visiting nearby Sherbrooke Village and the St. Mary's River. Shoulder seasons in late spring and early fall bring fewer visitors and cooler, comfortable temperatures, though some services in the area may be reduced. Winter visits are limited as the park is seasonal and surrounding facilities close for the off-season.

The park's main draw is its shaded picnic area alongside the St. Mary's River. Tables and a quiet setting make it a good stop for lunch during a Marine Drive road trip.
Sherbrooke Village is a living history museum a short drive from the park that recreates a 19th-century Nova Scotia community. Costumed interpreters demonstrate trades and daily life of the period.
The St. Mary's River is one of Nova Scotia's most important Atlantic salmon rivers and also supports brook trout. Anglers should check current provincial regulations and required licences before casting.
Route 7, known as Marine Drive, follows Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore past fishing villages, beaches, and coves. The park makes a useful rest stop on longer drives between Halifax and Cape Breton.
The nearby Liscomb Game Sanctuary protects a large inland wilderness of lakes, rivers, and forest west of Sherbrooke. It offers remote canoeing, wildlife viewing, and backcountry fishing for experienced visitors.
Taylor Head Provincial Park, west along Marine Drive, features sandy beaches and coastal hiking trails on a long peninsula jutting into the Atlantic. It pairs well with a Sherbrooke stop for visitors touring the Eastern Shore.
