Late spring (April and May) and early fall (September and October) are the most comfortable times for RV travelers, with warm days, cooler nights, and lighter traffic on SR 89A. Summer (June through August) brings peak swimming weather and the biggest crowds, so parking can fill early on weekends and holidays. Winter (December through February) visits are scenic but chilly, with occasional snow on the canyon road and creek water too cold for sliding.

The namesake attraction is a natural sandstone chute carved by Oak Creek where visitors slide through polished red rock. Rocks are slippery, so use caution. Water shoes and old clothing are recommended. azstateparks.com/slide-rock
Stroll through the early twentieth century apple orchard that gave the park its heritage. Interpretive signs describe the homesteading Pendley family and canyon farming. Paved pathways make this walk accessible for most visitors.
A short interpretive path loops along the canyon rim above Oak Creek for red rock views. The walk is a good leg-stretcher after the drive in. Expect exposed sections with limited shade.
Picnic tables and shaded areas make this a great spot for a midday meal. Sites sit among cottonwoods and sycamores with creek access. Pack out all trash and avoid glass containers.
Oak Creek offers cool, clear pools ideal for hot summer days. Water shoes help on slick rocks. Check posted water quality advisories before swimming.
The park offers dramatic red rock walls, green riparian foliage, and flowing water for landscape photography. Early morning and late afternoon light are best. Bring a polarizer for water shots.
Watch for songbirds, mule deer, and javelina along the creek corridor. Early morning and dusk are the best viewing times. Bring binoculars and keep a respectful distance.

Slide Rock State Park, AZ, United States
Slide Rock State Park sits 21 miles south of Flagstaff and 6 miles north of Sedona on paved State Route 89A in scenic Oak Creek Canyon. From Flagstaff, SR 89A descends the Oak Creek Canyon switchbacks, a narrow, winding mountain road with tight hairpin turns and steep grades that can be challenging for large motorhomes and trailers; many RVers prefer approaching from Sedona to the south. Parking at the park is limited and fills quickly on warm-weather days, so arriving early is essential for RVs. Flagstaff Pulliam Airport is the closest airport, with Phoenix Sky Harbor about a 2 hour drive south for fly-and-rent trips.
