Sonoma Coast State Park, CA, United States
Sonoma Coast State Park is located on Highway 1 between Bodega Bay and Jenner, approximately 72 miles north of San Francisco (about 90 minutes drive). From San Francisco, take US-101 north toward Santa Rosa, then exit to Highway 116 west toward Bodega Bay, connecting to Highway 1 north. Highway 1 through the park features numerous hairpin turns and steep grades that challenge larger RVs, particularly around Furlong Gulch and Bridgehaven. The maximum RV length accepted is 31 feet for motorhomes at Bodega Dunes and 27 feet for trailers and all RVs at Wright's Beach. Santa Rosa Regional Airport is 23 miles inland for fly-and-rent options. Willow Creek Road should be avoided by large RVs and trailers due to narrow, steep terrain.
September through November offers the most reliably pleasant weather with warm days, minimal fog, and moderate crowds. July and August are popular but often foggy in mornings along the coast. Winter (December through March) features the most rainfall and rough ocean conditions, but also hosts excellent whale watching from Bodega Head during gray whale migration. Spring (April through June) brings wildflower blooms and moderate temperatures, making it ideal for hiking. RV travelers should plan for cool temperatures year-round and pack layered clothing.
Wet season; cool and damp; Wright's Beach campsites 1-18 may be closed
Wettest month; Wright's Beach campsites 1-18 may be closed
Spring conditions; seal pupping season begins, maintain 50-yard distance; Wright's Beach campsites 1-18 may be closed
Mild spring weather; wildflowers bloom; whale watching still good
Warming trend; low rainfall; good hiking season
Summer begins; morning fog common but burns off by midday
Warmest month but coastal cooling effects; minimal precipitation; peak season
Warm and dry; morning fog typical; campgrounds often full on weekends
Excellent weather; warm without summer fog; ideal visiting period
Fall conditions; second whale migration season begins; increasing rainfall
Wet season returns; rainfall increases significantly
Cold and wet; excellent tidal pool access due to lower tides; whale watching peak; Wright's Beach campsites 1-18 may be closed
This easy 2-mile out-and-back trail on a rocky headland offers panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and Bodega Harbor. It's an excellent whale-watching location from December through April when gray whales migrate, with volunteer docents on-site during peak migration seasons to assist visitors. parks.ca.gov/?page_id=451
This relatively easy 4.6-mile round-trip bluff-top trail winds through coastal prairie from Wright's Beach to Blind Beach, featuring much of its length on a double plank wood walkway over wetlands. Hikers encounter dramatic cliff views and access to small sandy coves without extensive elevation gain. alltrails.com/parks/us/california/sonoma-coast-state-park
Goat Rock Beach is home to a large colony of harbor seals and sea lions visible year-round. A short trail provides views of Goat Rock from a nearby peak, and the beach offers beachcombing opportunities. Visitors must maintain at least 50 yards distance, especially during pupping season (March through August). parks.ca.gov/?page_id=451
Shell Beach features some of the most accessible tide pools on the Sonoma Coast, teeming with sea anemones, mussels, sea stars, hermit crabs, and colorful marine life. Late fall and winter offer the best tide pool access due to lower tides exposing more intertidal creatures. stewardscr.org/sonoma-coast-coastal-features/
This moderate 6.2-mile round-trip trail starts at Shell Beach and winds into a redwood forest with 650 feet of elevation gain, ending at a small waterfall. The trail offers a transition from coastal bluffs to lush inland forest ecosystems. alltrails.com/parks/us/california/sonoma-coast-state-park
The rocky coves and jetties around Bodega Head and along the park's beaches offer opportunities for rock fishing and crabbing. Common catches include rockfish, perch, salmon, steelhead, and Dungeness crab. Check current fishing regulations and seasonal closures. parks.ca.gov/?page_id=451
The park's 17 miles of craggy coastline with natural rock arches, sea stacks, and dramatic cliffs provide excellent opportunities for beachcombing and landscape photography. Different beach access points along Highway 1 offer varied perspectives of the rugged shoreline. sonomacounty.com/articles/discover-sonoma-coast-state-park/
Andre was a breeze to work with. He was in top of everything from pickup to drop off. Communications before and during the trip was excellent. I would highly recommend renting his travel trailers and will so again myself.

Andre and the trailer were great! It was perfect for a two day getaway with my wife and son. Very cozy and very clean. Andre showed up right on time to drop off, and made there was nothing I needed before he left. Highly recommend for a quick weekend getaway. We will for sure use again.

This was a very good rental experience. Great and very helpful communication for a trailer renting newbie family. The trailer ended up being very spacious, comfortable and convenient to use. Rear door for the restroom / bathroom entry was a brilliant-to-have. I'd definitely suggest renting (or bringing) a 3kW+ generator at least to top up the battery, as you can use it up pretty quick. The other thing is if you are not connected to water pipes keep a close eye on the grey water tank - in our 4-day / 3-night rental we were right on the fill limit at the end. Happily Jessica was able to help us out at pick-up on that. Overall, a really great camping trailer, a really great camping experience, a really great host. We will likely use again ourselves by way of recommendation.

The trailer was perfect for our needs and Jessica was friendly, easy to work with and responsive!! I would recommend to anyone looking for a roomy trailer to take on an adventure!
