Late June through early September is the prime window, when Cameron Pass and park roads are snow free, campgrounds are fully open, and wildflowers peak in the high meadows. July and August offer the warmest daytime temperatures for paddling and hiking, though afternoon thunderstorms are common. Early fall brings golden aspens and strong moose activity, with fewer crowds but cold nights. Winter is popular for snowmobiling and Nordic skiing, but most campgrounds close and RV access is limited.

The Moose Visitor Center on Highway 14 is the main hub for wildlife information and one of the best places in Colorado to see moose. Interpretive exhibits, a short viewing loop, and nearby meadows make it a quick and RV friendly stop. The wetlands around the lake are prime moose territory and moose are often seen near the campground.
Lake Agnes is a classic alpine lake tucked beneath the jagged Nokhu Crags in the Never Summer Range. The short but steep trail climbs roughly a mile from the trailhead to the lake at over 10,600 feet. Leave larger rigs at the lower lot, as the access road and upper parking are tight.
American Lakes trail leaves from the Michigan Ditch trailhead near Cameron Pass and climbs into a scenic basin beneath the Never Summer Mountains. The route continues to Thunder Pass on the Rocky Mountain National Park boundary for a bigger day. Trailhead parking on Highway 14 accommodates RVs and tow vehicles.
North Michigan Reservoir is a small, wakeless lake popular for trout fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. The adjacent campground provides direct shoreline access and RV sites within walking distance of the boat ramp. Early mornings are best for calm water and moose sightings.
Ranger Lakes is a pair of small lakes right off Highway 14 with an easy interpretive loop through lodgepole pine and wetlands. The campground loop accommodates trailers and motorhomes, and the trail connects directly from most sites. It is an ideal low effort option on arrival day.
Montgomery Pass climbs from Highway 14 up to the Medicine Bow crest with sweeping views across North Park and the Never Summer Range. Expect switchbacks through spruce-fir forest to an open alpine saddle above treeline. The trailhead has a gravel lot along Highway 14 with room for tow vehicles and moderate-size RVs.
Just outside the park boundary, North Sand Hills is Colorado's only open sand dune area for OHV recreation, offering unique riding for dirt bikes, ATVs, side-by-sides, and sand rails at the toe of the Medicine Bow Range. Connecting trails reach into State Forest State Park and adjacent U.S. Forest Service lands. Dispersed camping nearby accommodates RVs on firm ground. blm.gov/visit/north-sand-hills-ohv-area
