Late spring through early fall, roughly May to October, is the best window for RV travel, with warm days, full campground operations, and the lake open for boating and swimming. June through August brings the peak season for water sports and family camping, while September and October offer cooler nights, thinner crowds, and strong fall foliage across the surrounding Appalachian hills. Shoulder seasons can bring sudden rain and chilly overnight lows, so RVers should pack for variable weather. Winters are cold and damp, with most camping facilities closed and services reduced.

Boating is the signature activity at Stonewall Jackson Lake, a large reservoir that welcomes motorboats, pontoons, kayaks, and paddleboards. Public boat ramps provide trailer access, and the lake's many coves make for calm paddling on weekday mornings.
Stonewall Jackson Lake is a well-known warm-water fishery in central West Virginia. Anglers target largemouth and smallmouth bass, muskellunge, walleye, channel catfish, and crappie from shore and by boat, with a valid West Virginia fishing license required.
Several short to moderate trails wind through hardwood forest along the shoreline and surrounding ridges. The terrain is rolling rather than steep, making routes friendly for casual day hikers and families.
Designated swim areas on the lake are popular in summer for cooling off after a day on the water. Day-use facilities include picnic tables and restrooms near the shoreline.
Shaded picnic areas overlook the lake and are well suited to mid-trip lunches and group gatherings. White-tailed deer, wild turkey, bald eagles, and a wide range of songbirds are commonly seen around the park.
The adjacent Stonewall Resort offers a lodge, restaurants, a marina, and an Arnold Palmer signature golf course within a short drive of the state park campground. It is a convenient option for a rainy-day outing or a sit-down dinner during an RV stay.
The town of Weston, about 15 to 20 minutes north, is home to the historic Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum and the Museum of American Glass. Both make easy half-day excursions from the park for travelers wanting an indoor activity.

Stonewall Jackson Lake State Park, WV, United States
The park is reached by exiting Interstate 79 near Roanoke, West Virginia, roughly 10 to 15 minutes south of Weston and about an hour and 15 minutes south of Morgantown. Charleston is approximately 90 minutes to the southwest and Pittsburgh about 3 hours to the north, both reasonable long-weekend drives. RV drivers should be mindful of the rolling, winding secondary roads between I-79 and the park entrance, where grades, tight turns, and low shoulders are common; avoid shortcuts on narrow county routes and stay on posted state highways. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent trips is North Central West Virginia Airport in Bridgeport, about 40 minutes north, with larger hubs in Pittsburgh and Charleston.
