Things to do at Susquehanna State Park

  • Rock Run Historic Area Easy
    RV parking available

The Rock Run Historic Area is a cluster of restored 18th and 19th century structures near the riverbank, including the Rock Run Grist Mill, Carter-Archer Mansion, and a stone arch bridge. Parking lots near the historic Rock Run Gristmill offer easy access to the river and host a wide variety of warblers and other songbirds during peak migration. It is a good first stop to orient a visit.

  • Susquehanna Ridge and Land of Promise Trails Moderate

These forested hiking trails wind through hardwood uplands and along creek ravines above the river. Expect moderate elevation changes and well-marked loops suitable for a half-day outing. Trailhead parking lots can handle tow vehicles but are tight for large motorhomes.

  • Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway Trail Easy
    RV parking available

This flat, multi-use towpath trail follows the old Susquehanna and Tidewater Canal along the river. It is ideal for walking, jogging, and family bike rides with frequent river views and interpretive markers. Interpretive signage, a reconstructed swing bridge, and the historic towpath provide opportunities for self-guided exploration.

  • Birdwatching along the Susquehanna Easy
    RV parking available

The park is one of Maryland's premier birding destinations thanks to the river's migration funnel effect. A wide variety of habitat, combined with the funneling effect the river has on bird migration, makes this spot exceptional for birders. Bring binoculars in spring and fall for warblers, raptors, and waterfowl.

  • Fishing and Paddling the Susquehanna River Moderate
    RV parking available

Anglers and paddlers can access the river from the park's boat launch below the Conowingo Dam. The Lower Susquehanna River Water Trail offers 53 miles of paddling from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to Broad Creek in Maryland. Smallmouth bass, catfish, and seasonal shad and striped bass runs are popular targets.

  • Mountain Biking Moderate
    RV parking available

Susquehanna State Park features a network of singletrack and wider multi-use trails popular with regional mountain bikers. Loops range from beginner-friendly rolling terrain to rocky, technical climbs above the river. Riders can stage from the day-use parking areas near the campground.

  • Day Trip to Havre de Grace Easy
    RV parking available

The waterfront city of Havre de Grace is a short drive from the park and makes an easy half-day outing. Visitors can walk through the historic downtown, along the bay-front boardwalk, and past the Concord Point Lighthouse. The lighthouse, constructed in 1827, is one of the oldest continuously operating lighthouses in Maryland.

Really enjoyed my experience using RVezy for the first time and renting with Owen. He was very communicative, delivered the RV when he said and it was clean and exactly as described and pictured. He answered some questions I had very timely. I had a wonderful stay in it and would recommend and rent again!

Daniel was a fantastic host that came in the clutch for us when another host unexpectedly cancelled on us. The camper was exactly what was advertised, pricing was awesome, clean, and communication was on point! I would recommend Daniel and his camper to anyone looking to rent for their next adventure!

Susquehanna State Park, MD, United States

How to get to Susquehanna State Park

The park sits in Harford County, Maryland, about 10 minutes from Havre de Grace and roughly 40 minutes (35 miles) northeast of Baltimore via I-95. Philadelphia is about 70 miles and 90 minutes to the northeast, while Washington, D.C. is around 80 miles and just over 90 minutes to the southwest. RVers using I-95 should note the Fort McHenry Tunnel near Baltimore prohibits propane and other hazardous materials, so rigs with large propane tanks may need to take the I-695 bypass. Park access roads near Rock Run are narrow, wooded, and hilly with tight turns, so larger rigs should approach slowly. The closest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Baltimore/Washington International (BWI), about 50 miles south.
