Best time to visit Terra Nova National Park

Late June through early September offers the warmest weather, the longest daylight, and full campground and visitor centre operations. July and August are peak months for paddling Newman Sound and hiking the Outport and Malady Head trails, though biting insects can be heavy in early summer. Shoulder visits in June and September bring cooler nights, fewer crowds, and strong fall colour in late September. RV travellers should plan for cold snaps and possible campground closures outside the May to October window.

How to get to Terra Nova National Park

The park straddles the Trans-Canada Highway (Route 1) about 240 km northwest of St. John's, a drive of roughly 2.5 to 3 hours, and about 80 km southeast of Gander, around an hour away. The nearest major airports for fly-and-rent trips are Gander International (YQX) and St. John's International (YYT). The Trans-Canada through the park is a well-graded two-lane highway with no tunnels or severe grades, though sections can be windy and exposed, so large RVs should watch for crosswinds.
