Painted Canyon Overlook is a dramatic badlands viewpoint right off Interstate 94, seven miles east of Medora. The large paved parking area accommodates RVs and trailers, and a visitor center and short rim trail add context to the view. nps.gov/thro/planyourvisit/placestogo.htm
This 14-mile out-and-back drive climbs from the Little Missouri River to the Oxbow Overlook high above a sweeping river bend. It delivers wilderness and the park's most dramatic scenery, though drivers of large RVs should expect steep grades and tight curves. nps.gov/thro/planyourvisit/north-unit.htm
Theodore Roosevelt National Park is one of the best places in the country to see free-roaming bison, pronghorn, prairie dogs, and feral horses. The park's prairie ecosystem is teeming with a variety of mammal, bird, reptile, and insect species. Early morning and dusk offer the best sightings from scenic-drive pullouts.
Roosevelt's original Maltese Cross Cabin sits behind the South Unit Visitor Center in Medora and is open for self-guided and ranger-led tours. The visitor center parking area is accessible to RVs and offers a good first stop for trip planning. nps.gov/thro/planyourvisit/placestogo.htm

The South Unit entrance sits just off Interstate 94 in Medora, about 135 miles west of Bismarck (roughly 2 hours) and 60 miles east of Glendive, Montana. The North Unit is reached via US Highway 85 near Watford City, roughly 70 miles north of the South Unit by road. RV drivers should watch for steep grades and sharp switchbacks on the North Unit scenic drive, strong crosswinds on open prairie highways, and gravel oilfield truck traffic on US 85. The nearest commercial airports for fly-and-rent travelers are Dickinson (DIK), Bismarck (BIS), and Williston (XWA).
