Late June through September is the most reliable window, with drier weather, warmer ocean breezes, and full park services open. July and August bring the smallest chance of rain but also the busiest campground, so reservations should be booked well ahead. May, June, and September are excellent shoulder months for RV travelers seeking cooler temperatures and easier site availability. Winter visits are possible since the park stays open year-round, but expect frequent rain, gusty coastal storms, and short daylight hours.

The Umpqua River Lighthouse is a working coastal light station located on a bluff above the entrance to Winchester Bay. Guided tower tours operate seasonally and depart from the adjacent museum, with views of the lantern room and original Fresnel lens.
This roughly one-mile forested loop circles Lake Marie directly from the campground. The trail is mostly flat with some roots and small footbridges, making it a quick after-dinner walk for campers. A small swimming beach and non-motorized boat launch are accessible from the loop.
An overlook near the lighthouse offers wide views of the Pacific and the mouth of the Umpqua River. Gray whales pass close to shore during spring and winter migrations, and volunteers staff the site during peak migration weeks. Parking accommodates RVs and tow vehicles.
The park sits within the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, home to some of the tallest coastal sand dunes in North America. Off-road vehicle riding is popular here, with views of the Pacific Ocean from the tops of the dunes. Hiking and OHV staging areas are a short drive north and south on Highway 101.
Lake Marie is a small, no-motor lake stocked seasonally with rainbow trout. Kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards launch from the day-use beach near the campground. The calm water and short shoreline make it ideal for beginners and families.
Winchester Bay sits a short drive north of the park and is a working fishing village with a marina, crabbing docks, and seafood markets. Visitors can rent crab rings, charter ocean trips, or watch commercial boats unload. Plenty of pull-through parking is available near the docks.
Dean Creek is a managed wetland east of Reedsport along Highway 38 where Roosevelt elk are often visible from roadside pullouts. Spotting Roosevelt elk near the roadway is almost guaranteed during dawn and dusk. Several pullouts have interpretive signs and room for larger vehicles.

Umpqua Lighthouse State Park, OR, United States
The park sits just off U.S. Highway 101 about 4 miles south of Reedsport and roughly 20 miles south of Florence, with Coos Bay approximately 25 miles to the south and Eugene about 90 miles inland (a two-hour drive via Highway 38). RV travelers should plan for narrow, winding sections of Highway 101 with coastal wind exposure, occasional fog, and short bridges with posted weight and width limits. The access road into the campground is steep and curvy, so larger rigs should drive slowly and use lower gears. The closest commercial airport for fly-and-rent trips is Eugene Airport (EUG), with Southwest Oregon Regional Airport (OTH) in North Bend closer but smaller.
