Best time to visit Valleyview Provincial Park

Late June through early September offers the warmest, driest weather and the longest daylight hours for enjoying the valley viewpoint. Shoulder months of late May and late September bring cooler temperatures, fewer visitors, and colourful spring or autumn foliage across the Salmon River valley. The park is seasonal and day-use facilities are generally closed outside the warm-weather season, so RV travellers should confirm gate access before visiting in the off-season.

The Valleyview Lookout is the park's signature attraction, offering a sweeping panorama over the Salmon River valley, the town of Truro, and the Cobequid Hills. A short walk from the parking area leads to interpretive signs and benches. It is a popular stop for sunrise and sunset photography.

  • Picnic area Easy
    RV parking available

The day-use picnic area offers tables and open grassy space with hillside views. It makes a convenient lunch stop for RV travellers passing through central Nova Scotia. Washroom facilities are available during the summer season.

  • Short walking paths Easy
    RV parking available

Short, mostly level walking paths connect the parking area to the lookout and picnic sites. The paths are suitable for most visitors and offer a quick stretch-your-legs option during a road trip. Footwear with decent grip is recommended in wet conditions.

  • Victoria Park in Truro Easy
    RV parking available

Victoria Park is a large municipal park in nearby Truro with hiking trails, waterfalls, and gorge views along Lepper Brook. It is about a 10 minute drive from Valleyview and pairs well as a half-day add-on. RV-friendly street and lot parking is available near the main entrance.

  • Salmon River tidal bore viewing Easy
    RV parking available

The Salmon River tidal bore flows near Truro twice daily and is visible from viewing points a short drive from the park. The bore is caused by the extreme tides of the Bay of Fundy and Cobequid Bay system. Check local tide schedules before heading to a viewpoint.

  • Day trip to Fundy Shore Moderate
    RV parking available

Valleyview's central location makes it a useful base for day trips along the Fundy Shore, including Economy, Five Islands, and Parrsboro. These coastal drives feature dramatic tides, red cliffs, and fossil-rich beaches. Highways are RV-friendly, though some side roads have steep grades.

We recently rented an RV for our family trip, and it was an amazing experience from start to finish! The RV was in great condition, well-equipped, and exactly as described. Everything went smoothly during our trip, and we had no issues at all. The hosts were fantastic—very accommodating, responsive, and friendly. They made sure we had everything we needed for a great adventure. It was our first time RVing, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend this rental for anyone looking for a stress-free, memorable trip!

How to get to Valleyview Provincial Park

The park sits just outside Truro, Nova Scotia, reached via Highway 102 or the Trans-Canada Highway 104, about a 10 minute drive from downtown Truro and roughly an hour and 100 km north of Halifax. From Halifax Stanfield International Airport, the nearest fly-and-rent hub, the drive is about 75 km and takes just over an hour. RV drivers should note that the access road climbs a steep hill with tight turns near the lookout parking area, so larger Class A motorhomes and long fifth wheels may prefer to park lower and walk up. Winter driving is not recommended as the access road is not maintained for RV travel in snow and ice conditions.
