The Wallowa Lake Tramway carries riders from the valley floor to the 8,150-foot summit of Mount Howard. The 15-minute tramway ride rises 3,700 feet, offering an easy means to gain the high elevations that otherwise must be ascended by a steep, strenuous hike. A strenuous backcountry hike into the Eagle Cap Wilderness starting from the Wallowa Lake Trailhead at the south end of the park. The trailhead provides access to Chief Joseph Mountain Trail, East Fork Wallowa Trail, and the West Fork Wallowa Trail, which provide access to the Eagle Cap Wilderness. Wallowa Lake is a 1,500-acre glacial lake popular for boating, swimming, and paddling. A marina near the park offers boat rentals and launching. Kokanee and rainbow trout fishing are popular from shore and boat.
The Mount Howard summit offers exceptional subalpine wildflower viewing in mid-summer. July and August provide visitors the best opportunities for wildflower viewing. A historic site just north of the park honoring Old Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce (Nimiipuu), who is buried overlooking Wallowa Lake. The site includes a short interpretive walk and has roadside parking suitable for most RVs.

Wallowa Lake State Park, OR, United States
The park is reached from the town of Joseph, Oregon, via State Highway 82, which becomes Highway 351 south to the lake. From La Grande, Oregon, drivers follow Oregon Highway 82 about 70 miles to Joseph, roughly a 90-minute drive, then continue about 6 miles south to the park. From Boise, Idaho, the trip is approximately 4.5 hours via I-84 and Highway 82. RVers should note that the final approach on Highway 351 is a winding two-lane road along the lake with limited pullouts, and snow chains may be required in shoulder seasons. The nearest commercial airports for fly-and-rent trips are in Boise, Idaho, and Pasco, Washington, each about 4 hours away.
