Late May through early October offers the most reliable RV conditions, with warm days, open campgrounds, and full access to the lake, pool, and trails. June and September are ideal for avoiding the busiest summer weekends while still enjoying mild weather. October brings peak fall foliage in the Alleghenies and cooler nights, which is beautiful but can bring early frosts. Winter visits are limited because campground facilities and the pool close seasonally and mountain roads may see snow and ice.

Watoga Lake is an 11-acre park lake used for fishing, paddling, and rowboat rentals. Trailhead and day-use parking areas accommodate most tow vehicles and shorter RVs.
The Greenbrier River Trail is a long rail-trail that runs along the Greenbrier River near the park's western boundary and is ideal for cycling and walking. Access points near Seebert and Marlinton have parking suitable for tow vehicles.
The T.M. Cheek Memorial Observation Tower offers panoramic Allegheny ridgetop views after a short drive and a climb up the tower. The access road is narrow, so leave large RVs at camp and drive in a tow vehicle.
The Brooks Memorial Arboretum showcases native Appalachian trees and plants along easy interpretive paths near the park's administrative area. Parking is close to the main park road and suits day-trip vehicles.
The park maintains more than 40 miles of hiking trails that wind through hardwood forest, ridges, and stream valleys. Trailheads are distributed across the park and range from short nature walks to longer backcountry loops.
A seasonal Olympic-size swimming pool and picnic area sit near the center of the park and open during the summer months. The adjacent day-use lot provides space for campers arriving by tow vehicle.
Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park is a short drive south of Watoga and preserves the site of one of West Virginia's largest Civil War battles. The small park has a museum, picnic areas, and short interpretive trails.

Watoga State Park, WV, United States
The park is about 25 minutes south of Marlinton and roughly 2.5 hours from Charleston, West Virginia, and about 2 hours from Roanoke, Virginia. Access from US 219 uses narrow, winding secondary roads with steep grades and tight curves through the Alleghenies, so large RVs and towable trailers should drive slowly and check trailer length and turning radius before committing to interior park roads. There are no low tunnels on the approach, but expect mountain driving, limited shoulders, and spotty cell service. The nearest commercial airports for fly-and-rent travelers are Greenbrier Valley Airport in Lewisburg and Yeager Airport in Charleston.
