Late June through August is the most reliable window, with warm lake temperatures, open swimming beaches, and all campground loops in service. July and August are peak for family travel and tend to book out on weekends, so early reservations are recommended. Late May, early June, and September offer cooler nights, fewer crowds, and good fishing, though lake winds can be strong. The park campground is a seasonal operation, so RV travelers should confirm opening and closing dates before planning shoulder-season trips.

The main attraction is a long sand and pebble beach on Henderson Bay with a designated swimming area. Lifeguards are typically on duty during the summer season, and a bathhouse serves day-use visitors.
The park has a boat launch providing direct access to Henderson Bay and eastern Lake Ontario. Kayakers and anglers use it as a jumping-off point for sheltered shoreline paddling and bass and pike fishing.
Several miles of easy multi-use trails loop through open fields, woods, and bluff-top viewpoints above the lake. Trails are well-suited to casual walks, trail running, and birding.
Sackets Harbor Battlefield, about ten minutes north of the park, preserves a War of 1812 site with waterfront grounds and interpretive exhibits. The village offers shops and restaurants within walking distance of the historic area.
The Thousand Islands region along the St. Lawrence River is about an hour north via I-81. Popular stops include Alexandria Bay, Wellesley Island State Park, and scenic boat tours of Boldt and Singer castles.
Southwick Beach State Park and the adjoining Lakeview Wildlife Management Area lie just south of Westcott Beach and protect rare freshwater dunes and barrier beaches. Boardwalks and sandy trails lead to long, undeveloped stretches of shoreline.
Henderson Bay and the nearby open lake are known for smallmouth bass, northern pike, walleye, and salmon. A New York State fishing license is required, and charter operators run from nearby Henderson Harbor.
The camper was perfect for our annual trip. Our host was helpful and made me feel comfortable with managing everything.

Our experience with Andy was excellent. He was more than helpful for my first time RV rental! The Camper was clean, fully stocked and easy to navigate instructions. He created a setup that allowed us to easily enjoy our time in his camper with my 4 little ones. We would 100% recommend this camper to our friends and family, we hope to stay with him again. Thank you!

Westcott Beach State Park, NY, United States
The park sits along NY Route 3 near Henderson, about 15 minutes south of Watertown and roughly 1 hour 15 minutes north of Syracuse via Interstate 81, exit 40 or 41. From the Canadian border at the Thousand Islands Bridge, it is about an hour south. Access roads are paved and RV-friendly, with no tunnels or steep mountain passes, but some interior campground roads are narrow and tree-lined, so larger rigs should take loops slowly. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent trips is Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR).
