Late June through August is the best window for RV travel, with warm days, long daylight hours, and reliably open access on Highway 97. July and August bring the warmest lake temperatures for swimming at the sandy beach and the lowest chance of snow on mountain approaches. Shoulder seasons in May, early June, and September offer quieter sites and cooler nights, but water taps may be off and overnight frost is possible. The park is a summer-operating provincial campground, so winter RV camping is not supported.

The park's main day-use attraction is a sheltered sandy beach on McLeod Lake. For swimmers and sunbathers the sheltered sandy beach is perfect for tranquil outdoor relaxation, with a nearby change house, picnic tables, and fire pits. An abrupt drop-off is marked with floats, and there are no lifeguards on duty. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/whiskers/
A short interpretive walk that loops through the peninsula's spruce and cottonwood forest. A 20 minute nature trail offers a pleasant stroll near the beach, then loops back through the fragrant woods to the campground. It is a good stretch-your-legs option for RVers after a long highway drive. bcparks.ca/whiskers-point-park/
Paddling is a signature activity at Whiskers Point thanks to the park's peninsula setting. Canoeing and kayaking are popular activities at this park. Boaters are cautioned to keep a close eye on the weather, as McLeod Lake is subject to sudden, heavy winds which can transform the lake surface into dangerous whitecaps. bcparks.ca/whiskers-point-park/
McLeod Lake is a productive fishery accessible directly from the park shoreline. McLeod Lake provides angling for Dolly Varden and rainbow trout, and anyone fishing in British Columbia must have an appropriate licence. bcparks.ca/whiskers-point-park/
The park's lakeshore and sub-boreal forest attract a wide range of wildlife visible from campsites and the day-use area. The open water areas are good for waterfowl viewing and a wintering ground for trumpeter swans. Many species of birds frequent the park, including bald eagles, ospreys, tanagers and chickadees. bcparks.ca/whiskers-point-park/
The park is set up for multi-generational camping right from the RV site. A playing field, horseshoe pits, adventure playground, and volleyball net provide something for every member of the family. The adventure playground includes accessible features within the picnic and day-use area. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/whiskers/
A short drive north of the park leads to one of the oldest fur-trading sites in western Canada. The area was once admired by explorer Simon Fraser, who established Fort McLeod on behalf of the Northwest Trading Company in 1805, and Fort McLeod, just 10 km north of Whiskers Point, was the first trading post west of the Rocky Mountains. bcparks.ca/whiskers-point-park/

Lidia was a perfect host and very easy to communicate with. When we arrived the trailer was set up beautifully, very clean and even came with coffee and some other essentials that was a nice touch. I would definitely recommend booking your camping holiday with her!

Whiskers Point Provincial Park, BC, Canada
The park is located 130 km north of Prince George on Highway 97, roughly a 1.5 hour drive on a paved, year-round highway. Communities close to the park include Mackenzie, McLeod Lake, Bear Lake, and Prince George, with Prince George serving as the nearest major fuel, grocery, and service stop. Prince George Airport (YXS) is the closest commercial airport for fly-and-rent RV travelers. RVers should watch for long rural stretches without services, wildlife on the highway at dawn and dusk, and sudden mountain weather; boaters are also cautioned that McLeod Lake is subject to sudden, heavy winds which can transform the lake surface into dangerous whitecaps.
